Moderator: Clarification please

Can you clarify how you decide to remove a post from the message board? A friend who stays in La Manzanilla yearly has had to cancel her trip due to illness. She posted a generic note with dates the rental is now available, hoping someone might be looking for accommodation on those dates so that she can get her deposit back. (she will not be reimbursed unless the rental is filled). She included her email. She didn't mention/promote the location yet her post was removed. It says at the top of the message board "Rental request without email addressed will be removed immediately". I get that rental promotion is not allowed but this seems somewhat different to me. And it's not like it doesn't happen anyways: https://members5.boardhost.com/lamanzanilla/msg/1578320904.html

Your situation is not different, it is a rental promotion and happens fairly often. I allowed the post you linked to but have now removed it as no good deed goes unpunished. Take your availability to the rentalers in town they will help you find a renter. Good luck. | ------------------Re: Moderator: Clarification please

Not to pick on you Shelagh but this is a good place to say it. Preventing the promotion of vacation rentals was probably the very first guideline back 20 years ago. Renters would just promote their rental out of the blue. They would also respond to someone looking for a rental with their rental even though it was not even close to what the person was looking for, then they would bump their post back to the top. There is a title wave of rentals in La Manzanilla each looking for a way to get renters to their rental. The message board would cease to exist as we know if if they are not kept to the guidelines. Thanks for you cooperation! Moderator | ------------------Re: Moderator: Clarification please

Kind of like the title (sic) wave of ride shares on the board. Is it not possible to have a separate page just for them? Perhaps I’ve missed this being discussed previously, sorry if I have. Just asking.939 | ------------------Re: Moderator: Clarification please

I hear you Evelyn and your not the first to mention it, ride shares has been discussed several times in the past. What most don't see or know about is the work involved in moderating a message board. When there is a separate board for ride shares it involves training everyone to use that board, which due to the number of new posters is an ongoing process. It has taken a few years to implement but finally 90% of the ride shares are posting with the to/from date in the subject box, (I just delete the other 10%) which has made finding a ride share much easier (before that you had to open each ride share to see what it was referring to). I wish there was a way to keep them from being bumped to the top of the board each time someone responds to them but there isn't, the bump to the top applies to all post or none. Ride shares save money and energy. The money saved gets spent in La Manz. Its a balance (everything is) but better and easier than having a separate board. Onward
