Does anyone know the hours for the restaurant at La Vena? What days they might be closed during the season? Thanks! | ----------------Re: La Vena restaurant

Hey Lisa, what restaurant at La Vena, what's it's name, how do you get there? Did not know there was a restaurant there. Are you talking about the McHales Navy spot? | ----------------Re: La Vena restaurant

Yes, there is a restaurant. You get there through the Los Angeles Locos entrance. I am looking for what days they might be closed. I don't get the McHales reference.

I've also heard of that beach being referred to as McHale's Navy beach. I did a bit with Google last night, but have only found a general reference to filming in Jalisco? | ----------------Re: La Vena restaurant

I found this in the archives from 2012 the Wikipedia link says nothing about Mexico and I don't get any hits on searching the revisions There must have been some info there originally or I would not have linked to it. I did find this "Situated at the big bay end of the waterway is the beach house where the television program, McHale's Navy, was filmed". and this and LOCATION TOUGH ON 'MCHALE'S NAVY

The gate security guards may possibly (probably wii)turn you away if you bring in coolers of beer and food. Please support the restaurant. | ----------------Re: La Vena restaurant

We were there last year with 8 Mexican friends. They brought breakfast food for all of us, which surprised me. There were signs asking them not to do that. We actually fed the wait staff breakfast (friends of the family) and stayed for the day eating and drinking from the restaurant menu. As we were leaving, another couple at the restaurant called out our names. They had their sailboat moored there and we hadn't seen them for about 5 years, when they were married to different spouses and living in Anacortes, WA. It's a small world. We did have to talk our way through the guard house, and got passes that we had to return upon leaving. It was a great day. | ----------------Re: La Vena restaurant

In January 1997, I spent some time at a great bar, La Cueva de Piratas, repurposing the large, white wooden structure which was the barracks in the movie. It was across from the river, at the corner before you turned onto the beach. A few years later it either fell down or was torn down because of termite damage. | ----------------Re: La Vena restaurant

Only 1 person out of 11 answered the question. Interesting how it goes. | ----------------Re: La Vena restaurant

Ahh Jane, what great memories. A few years before you were there, it was Paris Tropical a small group of French expats who cooked up the best meals this side of Lyon. We used to drive all the way from Manzanillo just to eat and drink there. Our hosts were slow to get moving midday and while the clients were waiting, Juan who was just a teenage boy (our Juan of Choppers fame) would serve us drinks. The crows nest from McHales Navy was still overhead in the palm tree. | ----------------Re:McHales Navy

In the 90’s (before coming over to LM) we stayed at Blue Bay for 3 years. Just a bit up from the current La Vena, the original building built for the movie McHales Navy sat. It was first used by Blue Bay for special dinners offered to the guests and then turned into a restaurant owned by a French couple. And, it was torn down...not sure if it was termites or decay but is there a difference? Was a very cool building tho😍 | ----------------
