Liter Patrol...new message

Vicki...again many thanks to you and your volunteers who help keep our pueblo nearly liter free! A thought, as we have chatted in the past, I would love to piggy back with you on purchasing more garbage cans of the same caliber to put in the hoods so folks can stop using small square bins that dogs get in and make more work for the garbage Men! Can you let me know the price and when in 2020we might expect this to happen...Otra Vez has the funds now if we can make this happen quickly and almost time it for the move of the recycling center out towards the community garden! Please let me know ASAP and look forward to helping out! | ----------------Re: Liter Patrol...new message

Sorry that I missed your posting until now. Indeed, volunteers continue to do a lot of litter patrolling and the results are very apparent. Also, people continue to litter less, which is attributable to many reasons. I intend to ensure there are 2 public waste cans on each block throughout the village (except on the beach and hill). Many households and businesses already host a public waste can and La Manzanilla Hermosa is augmenting those. There are so many worthy causes that the bookstore and resale shop supports and those causes are never-ending. I encourage you to let me cover the public waste can costs from my personal annual environmental budget. Could you could possibly host a garbage truck tip jar at the store? I think it is probably a challenge for some people to encounter the truck and a central tip jar might help. The proceeds could be periodically handed to the driver. To respond to your questions: The timing for getting the cans from Guadalajara is beyond my control. It depends on the truck driver's next seasonal produce run from La Manzanilla to Guadalajara. He is able to return loaded with 30 cans. He might do so in late March. The cost of each can is 400 pesos. The bigger barrels are only 250 pesos but the Delgado said they are not preferred for the garbage truck workers because of the size. We deployed 10 of them last year (before knowing) and subsequently deployed 40 of the preferred size. I also pay some pesos to the: 1. truck driver, 2. person who drills drainage holes and paints the cans, and 3. family who helps me place them (their truck and labor). The unit price I pay for these aspects is on USB thumb drives. My laptop is ailing so I only fire it up a couple of times week. Thus, I can't provide that information now. Feel free to email me at mercer.vicki@gmail.com.

Thanks Vicki...I totally respect that you have this under control and am so happy to hear that the new garbage cans will be going into the neighborhoods perhaps as early as this month! And yes, I think we could offer a jar to those willing to donate to the garbage workers...especially in light that they now also pick up recyclables due to Lisa’s ongoing efforts! Will keep you posted! | ----------------Re: Liter Patrol...new message

The next batch of 30 cans will not be deployed until April, at earliest, because it takes time to drill drainage holes and paint them after they are delivered to La Manzanilla. The following 30 will be purchased as soon as possible after that. Thanks for hosting a garbage truck tip jar. However, I think another truck and person collects recyclables curbside. I am not involved with recycling and do not know. Lisa would need to provide information about that and let us know if tips might be appropriate for them too. . | ----------------
