Guided Tour to the Manantlán Biosphere Reserve Last tour of the season! March 2020 - Tuesday 17th, Wednesday 18th, and Thursday 19th Cost: $4,200 pesos This is the third year of offering this rare opportunity to visit Las Joyas Research Station in the Manantlan Biosphere Reserve, considered the third most important biosphere reserve in Mexico. Located southeast of Autlan de Navarro, in the Sierra Madre del Sur, Manantlan spans 139,577 hectares over the states of Jalisco and Colima. Las Joyas Field Station, (1,245 hectares) has been protected from human activities since 1987. The Field Station is a birding hotspot with over 365 species of birds, including 22 different hummingbirds and more than 40 birds endemic to western Mexico. Also present are many endemic species of flora including the ancient relative of corn, Milpilla perene (Zea diploperennis), as well as an endemic magnolia tree, Magnolia iltisiana. Other residents include 110 species of mammals, 80 species of reptiles, and 23 species of amphibians, many endemic to this region. The trip will be limited to 11 participants. Tour leader is Siux Díaz, an accomplished, bilingual birder from Autlan, joined by an expert in native plants. All meals, two nights lodging, and transportation to and from La Manzanilla or Melaque in a luxury van are included in the price of $4,200 pesos. A non-refundable deposit of $2,000 pesos is required. Once registered you will receive additional information on what to bring, etc. Deposit can be made at Costalegre EcoAdventure office with Lisa Fern, during business hours - MTWF 9-1, (closed on Thursday).
