Bat Infestation

Does anyone have experience in eliminating a bat infestation? We seem to have them living (and definitely pooping) in our upstairs terrace. Thanks. | ----------------Re: Bat Infestation

Please please please send them to my house! wonderful mosquito eaters and pollinators. excellent fertilizer producers. Bats don't usually tolerate a lot of human activity around them, so if the terrace is currently unoccupied you might try playing some music up there at sunset, hanging some wind chimes, something like that for a few days so it seems lived in. I hope we can adjust our thinking to appreciate and protect many of the critters we share the world with, and who offer us so many "free services"! Thanks! | ----------------Re: Bat Infestation

Kathy, I had them under the stairs at the bottom. I installed a light fixture and use an led bulb. They have been gone ever since. I just flip the switch at twilight and off in the morning. A light sensitive switch would be better. Good luck they do stink and eat lots of mosquitoes. | ----------------Re: Bat Infestation

Debbie has the right answer. Get a shop light you can clamp on a chair or railing, a timer that turns it on and off, and the bats will find a place they like more. Maybe even Lisa Ferns house!! | ----------------Re: Bat Infestation

Please be very careful cleaning up the poop, you guys. Fresh bat droppings can contain the histoplasmosis fungus, which can be quite nasty if the spores get inhaled into your lungs. When I was living on the beach here in '94-'95, I had a family of bats living under my roof, in the section over one of my open bedroom windows. The guano accumulated at the base of the window and apparently I was unknowingly breathing the spores as I slept. I ended up very, very sick, wanting to die kind of sick, in the hospital for several days kind of sick and after much testing was told that the cause of the illness was what I'm sharing here now. Hope the light at night idea works to discourage them from living at your house and you might cover your face cleaning up after them. Judy and Felipe PS: We love bats and would never think of harming them. | ----------------Re: Bat Infestation

We hung old CD disks off our roof to discourage there interest The shine and gentle swing from the Mobil was enough to make them move. | ----------------
