I’m in Vancouver. Came home 7 March. It is surreal. Every public event is cancelled and the shelves at the grocery stores are emptying out. People are nervous partly because there is no way of accessing the risk of contracting this virus. All you can really do is listen to the authorities and follow the guidelines. Personally I have tried to keep my distance from others until the two week period is over as those of you returning will also be expected to do. Thank goodness for the outdoors and the sunny days here in vancouver. At least one can go for a walk Good luck. | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

U.S. airports are jammed with long lineups waiting for medical screening. This concentration of people greatly increases risk of catching thee virus. Don't bother trying change flights, Airlines are overwhelmed with cancellations and rebooking and seem to have given up trying to process requests. My advice. Stay in Mexico while the collective brains of government people start functioning. | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

Going through LAX yesterday we moved quickly through customs and immigration. There was no health screening to go through as we were not coming from a country with a high number of cases of the virus. I am glad we are almost home with talk of the possibility of restricting travel in Washington State and the expectation of the virus rate growing throughout Mexico in the coming weeks. Not knowing how long this will go on for getting back to home base felt like the right choice for us. | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

Is that your first hand experience Larry? Have you traveled recently? If so from where to where. Did you try to change or cancel a trip? | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

Lineups for screening at major US airports is front page news from the Washington Post. My personal experience? Had tickets booked for travel Morocco on Tuesday on Air Canada. Decided to change date or cancel but unable to contact airline due to volume of calls, This is the same for all Canadian carriers. This morning, AC informed me that flights to Morocco cancelled. Telephone and computer systems at airline have all crashed so can't inquire about refunds or date change. Lots of rumours around about governments, including US and Canada, about travel restrictions to/from certain countries. Canadian government asking travellers to come home. This is stuff of sci-fi movies. What is true, who knows. But best not to panic. Worse places to get stuck than La Manz.

We are in BC. People, for the most part are self-isolating in an effort to flatten the curve. The government has suggested Canadians fly home. Photos of US airports being very busy, seem to be true. We are in early days. People have stocked up, but I haven’t seen outright hoarding. That said, I live in a smaller town,Nelson. | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

"Lots of rumours around........What is true, who knows" exactly why this thread is about personal experiences. | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

Just heard a plane fly over and wondered who was on it, what are they going back to and what are we going to do and feel here! I am not panicked but do have a concern as to the unknown of all this, naturally! Thanks to those who want to add in their thoughts on this thread, but yes, your experience, not rumor or assumptions...we all are getting plenty of real and not so real messages! Stay safe! | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

"what are we going to do and feel here!" That is unknown and opposite to the goal of your thread (which I think is brilliant). I hope we stick with personal experience only.

In the west, most schools are on-line for 2-3 weeks. All the ski resorts are closed down. My Heli ski trip to CA was cancelled. All professional sports are on hold. Most churches have suspended services as have most entertainment venues. Everything is being done to keep people from getting in close contact with each other. I'm 75 and this is the first time I have seen anything like this. | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

Hi: I've posted on another thread but here's our experience. Coming home to Canada was normal. We did not touch down in the U.S. The airport in Calgary was a bit emptier, but it seemed normal. Our local airport was normal. We got groceries. The shelves were all well stocked. No run on anything except kidney beans but there was a sale on them! After that, we have stayed home, as instructed by our provincial health officials. All our events have been cancelled but they were before we left La Manz. (We left on Thursday, home by Friday.) Things are progressing quickly. Our health officials have their shit together and so have both the federal and provincial governments so we have co-ordinated messaging, imo. It's clear how to manage this so far. There's talk of bringing people home from away, and talk of limiting airports that are open. This is the government talking to media. Canadian citizens have been told not to travel, and not to travel on cruise ships. The Prime Minister's wife has the virus. Prime Minister Trudeau is working from home, but is still very much working. I avoid any news I wouldn't trust, and I don't dwell on the news. I'm informed but not watching the news 24/7 either. We're planning our two weeks quarantine. There's plenty to do without leaving the house. Grocery stores deliver. So do friends. So does Amazon. Sending love and health to all. Don't panic, wash your hands a lot, and do what your brain tells you. Vicki | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

Bars and restaurants now closed in Washington state. News seems to change daily. It’s surreal. | ----------------Stay The F*** Home

Lots of creativity happening in my neck of the woods. Our wonderful songwriter, Stacy Seabrook, has crafted an anthem for these times! A sing-a-long with an easy chorus!

My wife and I flew from ZLO to LAX to Portland, OR on Saturday, 3/14. No problems. Flights were about 85% full which was kinda nice. Some people wearing masks, most not. After arriving home at 2am Sunday, decided to stay home for a couple of days to get a feel for the situation. Have heard from friends that stores are stocked up for the most part except we hear that toilet paper and hand sanitizer are in short supply. | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

We live in Washington State north of Seattle on San Juan Island. We returned from La Manzanilla on February 29. At that time, traveling through LAX was pretty normal. . In two weeks, things have changed drastically. All schools in the state are now closed until the 24th of April. Parents are scrambling to find child care and school districts trying to figure out how to do online classes and get meals to children in need. Washington State Gov. Jay Inslee signed an emergency declaration Monday morning, mandating the closure of all bars, entertainment and recreational facilities, while limiting restaurants to deliveries and take-out options. The updated order will also forbid gatherings of 50 or more people, mirroring new guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

Hi All. We returned to Salem, Oregon, on March 3. No problems getting through customs and immigration, in Phoenix. Things have changed rapidly since then. Oregon governor, Kate Brown, has limited gatherings to less than 250 people and closed the state's school system. She hasn't ordered the closing of restaurants and bars, as is the case with California and Washington, yet. On Sunday, a waitress at one of the popular restaurants told me that business had been down, a lot. Yesterday, my favorite coffee house closed in mid-morning due to a lack of customers. This morning, it was closed until further notice, as were other coffee houses. The nearby Starbucks was taking only drive-through orders. Our health club has seen a drop in people working out and taking classes, though the staff is doing frequent equipment wipe-downs and providing lots of sanitizers. The AARP senior tax help centers have suspended operations, which is understandable given their clientele. My best to you all. | ----------------Re: New thread....if you have gone North...what is happening where you are?

Flew back to Minnesota March 10 for some medical procedures- as of today March 17 - all schools are closed. All bars - restaurants - health clubs country clubs etc are closed (food take out only). No concerts - sports or any other public venues are allowed. State offices (welfare - drivers license - etc are closed). Grocery stores are packed and have special hours for people over 60 to shop. My hospital / clinic is canceling all elective and non emergency surgeries and tests. Am flying back to MExico in 2 days - flights are cheap ( $120 from MSP to PVR). | ---------------- |
