Driving back to Canada

Here is a question I am putting out there for some response (I have asked Westjet and the Canadian Consulate in PV and not got a serious answer), we are scheduled to fly back just after all the flights are stopped, so our real only remaining option is to drive home, has anyone driven back to Canada without major delays or being turned around. Today's challenges are requiring looking at all options, YES, there is always an option of just staying put and waiting it out (at least we have options). | ----------------Re: Driving back to Canada

Before you attempt to drive back check your medical insurance. Some insurance companies are cancelling coverage for people outside the country. | ----------------Re: Driving back to Canada

Drove back to Canada on Feb. 28 and had no issues at either border. Crossed the Canadian border heading back to La Manzanilla on Mar 16 and had to answer a short questionnaire inside. Nothing more. Lots of coffee shops and restaurants only have drive through in the U.S. but most people that I talked to were not too worried. Will see how the crossing into Mexico goes tomorrow morning at Nogales. | ----------------Re: Driving back to Canada

We booked our return flight to Canada (Hamilton, On)on Swoop Air. It is a subsidiary and Ultra Low Cost Carrier owned by WestJet. West Jet has cancelled all relevant (for us) international flights starting at midnight this Sunday. Swoop is still flying (direct flights to Canada) and seemingly still intends on doing so. When I checked this morning -- Alaska Air was still taking bookings to Canada -- hubbing through California. My Temporary Vehicle Import Permit will likely lapse before I return -- but, that is minor issue (lose deposit). Jim T | ----------------Re: Driving back to Canada

Yesterday we crossed the border in Nogales. At 3pm there was no line, the officers were very kind, not too many questions, and we were in the States in 5 minutes. Easier crossing ever! After that we stopped in several grocery stores, trying to buy hand sanitizer or something to clean our hands, even alcohol... every shelf was empty, it was scary! We arrived in Phoenix at 8:20 pm and tried to find a place to eat. Every place was closed ... when we finally asked what was going on people informed us that after 8 pm yesterday all bars and restaurants had to close. From now on just take away. No socializing of any kind, no movie theaters, no casinos... Another thing, most of the washrooms are closed, so how are we supposed to wash our hands??? We still have a few days before arriving at the Canadian border but I can let you know how things are when we get there. After entering in the States I feel like I am living in a science fiction movie. Unfortunately it is real... | ----------------Re: Driving back to Canada

Thanks for all of your input, bottom line, we are going to hunker down and enjoy our little town and what it has to offer, I feel that things north of us will get worst before it gets better, and it is better to stay with what you know rather than venture into the unknown!!! Thanks again | ----------------Re: Driving back to Canada

For those that have recently driven back to Canada. I know restaurants are mostly closed. How is it finding hotels for the night? | ----------------Re: Driving back to Canada

A lot of us are going to be driving back north before Semana Santa, and will need places to stay. Info on motels would be really good to know! | ----------------
