Canadians how to get home? what to do?
Posted by Myranda and Mike on March 20, 2020, 6:10 am
Been trying for days to contact westjet unsuccessfully to change our flight. (phone, website, messenger) There is a form on their site to cancel a flight and then re-book a different flight but all the flights listed are "sold out" until May. What to do? If anyone has successfully changed their flight, please advise how you did it. Thanks | ----------------Re: Canadians how to get home? what to do?

Try having someone in Canada contact Westjet for you. He/she is usually able to get through but will have to sometimes wait on hold for 30 or more minutes to talk with someone. Make sure that person has your original reservation code and flight info if you were already booked after the 22nd of March. Also, be sure to register for possible repatriation on the "Registration of Canadians Abroad (ROCA)" website: https://ms.spr.ly/6189TdJ8N or google the above. Also, at this point in time, there are still flights going out of PV to Canada through the USA. | ----------------Re: Canadians how to get home? what to do?

Had similar problems with Air Canada and ended up booking another flight. I also registered on the Canadian Abroad service and get useful information by email such as the schedule for ending Air Canada flights from Mexico. | ----------------Re: Canadians how to get home? what to do?

We booked the extra flight out of ZLO yesterday when we read in the message board that they were flying down an empty plane. (Thanks Elke). WestJet has not sent us one email to inform us of changes. We booked online so keep checking. Things are changing hourly | ----------------Re: Canadians how to get home? what to do?

Have a look on the Swoop website, they have a flight leaving PV on March 28, when I looked there it seemed there were seats available. Swoop is a subsidiary of West Jet. The flight is scheduled to go to Edmonton. | ----------------Re: Canadians how to get home? what to do?

You can always fly Alaska Airlines. There seem to be lots of fights available through their website. I don't know your destination. | ----------------Re: Canadians how to get home? what to do?

Called WJ last night and within 5 min a lovely person changed my April 19 to 28 when they say they are flying again out of PV no charge for any changes. Rumour is things are going to shut down in town and not many if any beach crowds. Will see. If you hunker down here you are safer than going through chaotic world up north. | ----------------Re: Canadians how to get home? what to do?

Don’t even try to change your existing reservation! Purchase whatever flight you can to get back and worry about a possible refund when you get home. | ----------------Re: Canadians how to get home? what to do?

I changed mine using a travel agent. Try Flight Centre. Westjet waved the $100 change fee. Good luck | ----------------Re: Canadians how to get home? what to do?

Finally spoke to an agent at Westjet and they changed our flight that was due to leave April 16. Now booked on a flight May 1 as that is all that is available after 30 day quarantine. There are no more flights before March 24 - Caveat: may need to be changed again depending on virus. Thanks to all for advice and tips. Here's my tip - call Westjet at 001 403 444 2446 and when automated choices are presented, DON'T choose the option "flight is at a later date". Then you get in the queue for an agent - I only had to wait 5 minutes. | ----------------
