summary of today's meeting

People have been contacting me asking what happened at the meeting of business and restaurant owners in the jardin this morning. I wasn't there, but I have spoken at length with one of the ambulance board members and with one of the men on the ambulance team who were there. Basically, the representatives there from La Huerta, the president and the head of Proteccion Civil, made suggestions that, unfortunately, they have no way of enforcing and may or may not help. For one, they have asked that small space businesses, like Chop Chops or the tiendas, allow no more than 10 people to enter at one time, and the workers are required to sanitize and wash their hands after every customer. They have asked the restaurants to run at 60% capacity, and also to sanitize tables, chairs, doors, etc., as each customer leaves. As far as Semana Santa, they have not prohibited tour buses from coming into town. Our local businesses say they need that business to be able to feed their families and to keep their workers employed so that they can feed their families. As one of the people who attended the meeting said, the attitude here is, "I may die of the coronavirus, but I'm not going to starve to death." It was suggested at the meeting that each tour bus be stopped and checked, and if anyone has a temperature or other symptoms of the virus, that bus will be turned away. But nobody is in charge of doing that monitoring. Another suggestion was that beach vendors not be allowed to enter the restaurants, that they be provided a space outside to display their wares, and people can come to them. Again, there is no system in place for these new rules to be enforced. Supposedly if we see infractions of the rules, we are to tell the delegado, and he will report to La Huerta officials. There has been an app created that you can get on your phone to update you on the latest information. Look in your app store for Participa La Huerta and follow the links from there. I'm hoping that some of these decisions will change, especially the one about allowing the tour buses to come in. For now, this is the information that came out of the meeting as it was reported to me. | ----------------Re: summary of today's meeting

I attended the meeting, and here is a bit of additional info. Hotels and motels must also operate at no more than 60 percent capacity; bars, cantinas, and discoteques must close immediately. The website www.lahuerta.gob.mx will provide continuous updates. (When I accessed this site, my computer automatically translated it to English.) A petition was presented to deny access to tour buses, but it was too little, too late. | ----------------Re: summary of today's meeting

There was no apparent "social distancing" whatsoever, but I forgot to mention that the Autlan hospital is stocked with ventilators. | ----------------Re: summary of today's meeting

That is a tragical news for la Manzanilla that the tour buses will come for Eastern. We will see people dieing here and there is not even appropriate medical care. Approximately 2 million will die in US till August and half million in UK. It will reach its peak point in May in UK and August in Statez. It is crucial now to educate people about this illness in la Manzanilla My mail monisueno72@gmail.com | ----------------Re: summary of today's meeting

very disappointed to hear this report from the meeting...maybe everyone can try ..usind social distancing or phone...to contact our mexican neighbours and try to get through to them just how critical the situation here could get if they do not stay home and if the easter plan goes ahead. I have been trying to talk to my friends and neighbors....some get it but most really just dont seem to realize how this could spread. so many people are related and/or have known most of their friends many years...they cannot fathom staying away from family and friends...praying we can change this decision somehow Mary Jo is sending another petition to La Huerta please phone or email her to get your name on the petition to try to change this decision. It is something we all should try to do at least. she needs as many people as possible to give their permission to have their name added..and a phone or email so this can be confirmed that the person gave permission for their name to be added. (email petition will go directly to vice pres. of La Huerta thanks and please make the effort and try to get your mexican friends and neighbors to do the same Linda Mandala | ----------------Re: summary of today's meeting

What would the petition be for, exactly? To stop the tour buses? Close the restaurants? Change the numbers allowed in public places? I'd be happy to sign a petition, Mary Jo, but I need the details. | ----------------Re: summary of today's meeting

This is all very easy for us to say but, this is their country. They have to eat. See my comment on the petition post. Thoughts welcome. | ----------------
