personal experience on 3/22

Buenos Dias to all in La Manzanilla, This is our personal experience: Our party of 4 was scheduled to fly out on American Airlines on Saturday from ZLO. We were stopped at the Colima / Jalisco border and asked health questions about fever, cough, etc. It took about 5 minutes to get through as they had 3 lines of people asking the questions so the cars could move through quickly. At the airport there is a health questionnaire to fill out, 1 per person. Then they scan you to see if you have a temperature. The airport was definitely full. There were no seats for us to sit on. The staff working the health screen, the thermometer, and the security checkpoint, and the ground crew all had masks and gloves on. But the manager-types did not. Our plane had a mechanical difficulty, so it couldn't leave but I will spare you all the details of that, since it doesn't apply to people just trying to leave the country. (American Airlines should give their manager at Manzanillo aero puerto a raise or a bonus. His name was Noe and he was outstanding). The next day AA had the taxis at the hotel to take us to the airport. Same procedure at border crossing. Same procedure at airport and yes they did scan everyone a second time for fevers. Definitely if you try to leave with a fever, you will be stopped. We arrived in Phoenix and were quite surprised at how empty the airport is. And flying in one can see there are very few cars on the roads. What surprised us even more, however, was the LACK of screening in the U.S. We were not screened for fevers. No one was wearing a mask at customs or airline kiosks. A few of the more general - type stores were actually open in the airport, but the majority of stores were closed. MOST people in the airplane were wearing masks, some wearing gloves, and some people were grumpy and rude; must be because of the stress. Driving home late at night the gas stations are open and some fast-food drive-throughs are open. So I think it's safe to say that every part of the country, USA or Canada is going to be different. It is a fluid situation. We are so grateful to the people of La Manzanilla. Thank you to everyone that helped us while we were there... Susana and Dalia and Lisa and Gerardo and Dr. Marta... and to Xachali and Mi Casita and Chap Chap for the delicious food and juices and smoothies and the coffee shop on the beach and Al and Marlene from the Community church and Christine from the art studio. Please all of you be well, keep on being your best selves, keep on taking care of each other, be gentle and kind to each other. You took care of us till the end and we so appreciate it. We heard later that the Manzanillo airport was closed starting Sunday and there are no more flights in or out. Could someone confirm that for me? And are the beaches closed? | ----------------Re: personal experience on 3/22

Sunday 12:05 I had a flight with Aeromexico confirmed at noon on Saturday. Few people on plane and very few at Mexico City. 4 hour wait but a good trip back to Vancouver,BC. Again few travellers, I had 3 seats to myself. Missing La Manzanilla but grateful for all the love and caring I received during the two months of my stay.Best wishes to all who are still trying to leave. Stay safe and breathe. | ----------------Re: personal experience on 3/22

It was wonderful getting to know you, Tina and your girls. I am so happy that you are home. We are still trying to get out but not panicking. Enjoying the heat and beautiful beach which we almost have to ourselves. Definitely we are isolating from others. I know we will meet again. Many blessings and love. | ----------------
