PETITION

#MY HEART IS HEAVY WITH CONCERN FOR ALL THE RESIDENTS OF LAMANZANILLA. CDC says The virus is a .01 micron tennis ball shape with little suction cups all around it. The virus grows in the throat and nose. One "catches" the virus from air droplets or contact on surfaces. The virus lasts in the sun for up to 9 days on door handles, railings etc. This is why we are asked to stay inside. #After 5 days a dry cough starts. later a wet cough. After a week or so, you may get better. If not, the disease spreads through the immune system, causing inflammation, ending up in the lungs. The air sacks in the lungs become full of liquid, making it impossible to breathe without a ventilator. Eventually the organs start to fail from lack of oxygen and you die. #You may have survived, but how would you feel if you gave it to your Grama or aging aunt or anyone else in high risk: diabetes, heart, lung, or over the age of 70. And they died a painful death. The tour buses are coming from high risk areas and could bring in just one unknown carrier of the disease, risking the spread of the virus thru town like wildfire. #This is why I am asking for a virtual petition to give to the President of LaHuerta. PLEASE STOP THE TOUR BUSES FROM COMING IN TO LAMANZANILLA UNTIL THE PANDEMIC IS CLEAR. #No one will actually STARVE in our town. You´ve been through rehabilitation after the quake in ¨95 and most recently after Patricia. Please talk to your mexican friends. I´ll try to translate on to FB. We can pull together and NO ONE will ever go hungry. Inconvenient yes, dead, no! There is no cure and we don´t have ventilators. It is difficult to get to doctors. Please, take this seriously. #Let me know by messenger, whats app, messages, or email that you want to sign the petition. jomary60@gmail.com 315 113 9715. Wash your hands often for 20 sec and don´t touch your eyes, nose or mouth. You never know who has the virus. | ----------------Re: PETITION

I hear your concern, Mary Jo, and will sign the petition. However, I really don’t think it will be necessary. I heard from German a few days ago that many people from inland were canceling their plans to come here for Semana Santa. And now with 25 days of strict measures being requested, I think people are getting it. After all, if they put their seniors at risk of dying, who will care for the children? I don’t think many would be that short-sighted. | ----------------Re: PETITION

Are you ready to take the blame for the reduction in business (that will probably happen without your petition)? You may have the moral high ground saying you saved lives but that won't be something you can prove. Your intentions are honorable, but I don't think you are looking over the horizon to the possible ramifications. I won't be signing, nor do I support the idea on any level (other than the good intentions). I think you should take Abigahil's suggestion and drop it. | ----------------Re: PETITION

On the other hand, Daniel, there will be a reduction in business when the virus rips through the town, killing about 10% of the population and crippling another 10% (my guesstimate, based on what we’re seeing in places with limited healthcare resources). There is no two ways around it: there is going to be a severe economic impact—the only choice is whether it kills a lot of people, or a few. | ----------------Re: PETITION

"There is no two ways around it: there is going to be a severe economic impact" Yes, there are two ways around it (at least). One is to help the most vulnerable to shelter in place while the rest take their chances and live as normal a life as possible. Its lives vs the economy (it always has been) . The economy will be chosen much sooner on the next pandemic. IMO Anyway, It's their country, we can express opinions and help if requested but otherwise should butt out. IMO P.S. When the Coca Cola trucks stop coming to town, that is when its time to worry. So far, were good

> while the rest take their chances and live as normal a life as possible As we are seeing *everywhere*, this overwhelms the healthcare system and a great many people—including doctors and nurses—die. | ----------------Re: PETITION

Referring to buses most folks on these day tours bring their own food and only buy drinks and or rent a table. This is not a huge money maker but definitely defying health rules for this time. | ----------------Re: PETITION

That was a very harsh way to get people’s attention but not signatures if that’s what you really want | ----------------Re: PETITION

Mary Jo to be honest my first feeling when I read the petition post is that you think we are stupid and that you are better then us, then I put my self in your shoes and understand why you are doing this (sadly not many people take the time to do it and they go with the first tought)I know you are very concerned and have always help our town I appreciate that very much and have always notice, but you are putting your self in a tricky position, as you say people or not seeing the bigger picture plus what ever bad happends they blame, if you succide, they won't see the bigger picture and they will blame you for the bad economy and every one that sign that petition "gringos", they will forget everything you have done for the town. In your concern I saw my self proteccting my child but she is 13 she is not a grown up person, La Manzanilla children have parents to protect'em if they don´t do it is on theme is not in your control and it should not be (you can always put a complain with the authorities about child abuse or negligence). You are responsable for your self only, not even your husband. I have control issues, so I take a BIG breath and remind my self that if is not my child I have to let it go, because if I don't I'm gonna feel dessapointed and I hate feeling that way, this works for me and I am 38 years old I am sure you can do better then me. Everyone be safe | ----------------Re: PETITION

I have to go Abigahil on this. Working in 17 different countries taught me to mind my own business if I want to be accepted. Not our country. My wife, daughter and I are staying in the house except for groceries and essentials. I encourage all "foreigners" to do the same. So much social media bs out there how can a person even decipher what is real? Stay safe. Live and let live. Order some delivery and help a family eat. | ----------------Re: PETITION

A few of us winter residents, who have returned home, are watching the message board with baited breath We’re wondering if there is any way that we could send money directly to help out the wonderful Mexicans of manzanillo during this scary time ? | ----------------Re: PETITION

Abigahil, thank you for letting us know how you feel. It is sometimes difficult to see where good intentions end and control begins. I trust La Manzanilla will take care of their children and themselves. | ----------------Re: PETITION

Hola Mary Jo, Gracias por esta iniciativa.Roberto y yo queremos firmarla.

Reggie, I have heard that the workers were told that if they left work, i.e. La Manzanilla and it’s surrounds, to visit family in other areas that they would not be allowed to return to work. The fear is that if they disburse, and then reunite from who knows where, they will bring the COVID-19 back with them - so it is best if everyone stay put ~ something we are all doing. | ----------------Re: PETITION

Up. Go the rides in the Jardin as if all normal and I ask myself if there is any better way to spread sanything? Plus where have they all been in the last few weeks? Why is the town allowing this easy spread?

I was one of the first to sign, the day of the meeting in the jardin but, quite honestly, I think it would take a whole lot of people standing in the middle of the road into town (a la Tiananmen Square) to keep the tour busses out. | ----------------
