I have a question on what is meant by local tourism. The linked article says beach activities are suspended to international, national and local tourism. What does it mean? What is local tourism? Someone coming from Melaque or close by? Or does it mean us 'locals'? Cruz | ----------------Re: It looks official....

Alma, one of my best sources of all local news, just told me that the beaches are closed to everyone except residents; however, we do not need to carry identification to prove that we live here. I have no idea how this ban will be enforced. | ----------------Re: It looks official....

I just asked the delegado if the beaches were going to be closed. He said 'No, not until he gets word from authorities above him." Why can't this town take their own initiative and follow the norms set by the governor of Jalisco as well the central government? Apparently the beach road has just been graded, in anticipation for what? | ----------------Re: It looks official....

I can't find a tutorial that makes it as easy as it is so I will give you the instructions here. At the top of every web page is the address of that page (URL). It starts like this https:// If you click on it it will turn blue. (if it doesn't then drag the mouse across it until it is blue) Right click and select copy Go to the white box on the message board right click and select paste. Click preview, you should see the link underlined. You can click on it to be sure it is working. Click post and you are done. You can try it here, I will delete your post after you have learned. | ----------------Re: It looks official....

So...if the Delegado is indeed waiting to hear from higher up...is there anything we can do? Curious to know if someone in La Huerta or beyond could be called...? | ----------------Re: It looks official....

And that is exactly what I heard being debated on the street today. “Local authorities” can decide. So if the decision is made to leave our beach open we must assume it’s the money, as always, that decides the fate of our town’s well being. Every local I’ve talked to wants the beaches closed for their own safety, but none of these are the restaurant owners.

I got a message from the head of Proteccion Civil when I asked about the closing. Here is Perla’s response: The municipal president is currently in a meeting with the governor of Jalisco in the city of Guadalajara, to give him instructions on this procedure to close the beaches. When the president gives us the indication to close and his protocol of how it will be carried out and under what conditions he will let them know, or he will make it known through his official page of the municipal government of La Huerta | ----------------Re: It looks official....

The link I was given at the meeting last week is www.lahuerta.gob.mx However, when I clicked on "important message" (recorded 55 minutes ago), it took me to a FB page video that wouldn't play. | ----------------Re: It looks official....

> is there anything we can do? Virtually every human on the planet is going to be infected. A significant portion of humanity, particularly if certain (mostly respiratory) health issues are involved, is going to have a really rough time. Of those, quite a few will require hospital intervention if they are to survive. The availability of hospital facilities will be determined by location and case load; the latter is proportional to measures taken to enforce quarantine. Those who require medical intervention are likely to have lung issues after recovery; a fraction of them will not recover. What you can do is endeavour to avoid the virus until there is (a) good medical interventions, i.e. some of the promising malaria drugs, that radically improve one’s chances of recovering without lung damage; or (b) a vaccine is available; or (c) an antibody test kit shows that you have fought off the virus without knowing you had it. What you do not want to do is catch this virus at the same time as many others do because hospitals are going to be overwhelmed and triage measures are going to determine whether victims receive treatment. Your chance of contracting this disease rise with the number of people you come near. Keep in mind that for this particularly contagious disease, for each person you contact face to face, you essentially contact all the people they contacted a few days earlier It adds up extremely quickly. Sheltering in place, absolutely minimizing the time spent near others, and excruciatingly conscious hygiene are the best way to avoid being infected. Wearing a mask—even a bandanna—helps prevent inadvertently spreading the disease, though it does little to prevent getting it. Wash your hands frequently, wipe down surfaces, don’t touch your face (as if that’s possible!), avoid close contact with most everyone but your live-in partners. Good luck. We are all in for one hell of a ride for the next few months. | ----------------
