Repeating a little good news and requesting donations

Hola. It was reported a couple of weeks ago that the beach was open except for swimming. I'm repeating this because people don't seem to be aware of it. No crowds and use precautions if needed. No more sneaking necessary, lol, at least this is what I was told by the Delegado. Since infection rates are rising, the beach opening can be revoked at any time by the Governor, so enjoy. Also, I want to pass along that basic staples are being provided every Friday morning to residents that sign up for them on Monday through Wednesday. This has been happening for several weeks now. People pay $140 pesos to receive $600 pesos worth of supplies. People sign up and on Thursday the Delegado calls in the order to a Colima bank. The biggest problem of this distribution is that not every one has $140 pesos. only 40 to 70 families participate weekly. So donations to the Delegado's office can be designated to cover the distribution cost for identified families in need. $140 pesos gives them $600 pesos worth of staples, a good deal. Ten of us giving $140 pesos a week provides 10 more families with the value of $6,000 pesos in goods. The Delgado's office gives receipts for donations and respects requests. For instance, someone donated $1000 pesos for disabled persons. This was distributed to 5 people who signed for their gift of $200 pesos. The Delegado and Esmeralda, the secretary are dedicated and honest and assure us that donations will make their destination and they keep receipts. Also, they know the community. Maybe this is a way to spread the giving and assist more families, just saying. Cruz

Aha! Now I know why there was such a big crowd at the delegacion on Thursday when I stopped by to use the ATM. (BTW, not a single person was wearing a mask, including the people inputting the info into two computers and at least one local doctor.) Before we contribute more money, I have a question. According to several local families who donated to El Reten, it was not Francisco's decision to close it down, so they would like to know where the extra $10,000 pesos went. Will there ever be a public accounting of the funds designated specifically for the blockade, in English (Message Board) and Spanish (local FB page)? | ------------Re: Repeating a little good news and requesting donations

Last Report on El Retén - posted May 20 - $10,050 pesos divided up at $300 pesos per family to single mothers and elderly - each without family here to help them. | ------------Re: Repeating a little good news and requesting donations

Thanks for the explanation, but quite a few Mexican contributors think that the reten was shut down because Franciso was told there was no money left to support it, and thus he had no choice but to dismantle it. So I'm still not sure what to tell them. (People often ask me about foreigner-supported projects...as well as what to do about animals in need.) | ------------Re: Repeating a little good news and requesting donations

Tewll them they are incorrect - Francisco told me that the reten would be dismantled. I attended the meeting in the Jardin on the 15th, wherein a gengleman from La Huerta came and told us that the restaurants could open (with limitations and restrictions), and that the beach would be open but no swimming. | ------------Re: Repeating a little good news and requesting donations

And to be clear: I double checked with Alexi (Francisco\s right hand guy up at the reten) who confirmed that there would be no more guard at the entrance to town. Also to be clear: As Stephanie contributed $4,000 pesos to start this thing off, I gave her back the $4,000 to distribute as she felt needed the most. | ------------Re: Repeating a little good news and requesting donations

Third clear: La Huerta pulled their assistance on the reten on the 30th of April (just in case you are not clear) | ------------Re: Repeating a little good news and requesting donations

Hola, Valerie. I think residents are just wanting clarification. The Delegado did report that you told him there was no more support for the checkpoint crew on the 16th when you had told them earlier that there was funding to cover them until the end of May. The local emergency crew would have continued to check visitor temperatures and their destination especially with the opening up of restaurants and people coming in from Guadalajara. My question is did you then distribute $10,000 pesos or $6,000 pesos meaning the difference between 33 or 20 persons receiving the help and who they were. Both the Ejido and the Delegado have been sharing the names of families they contribute support to so that people in need aren't left out. I'm sure the effort isn't fool proof but it would help if you would give them your information too. Thank you for all your work and hope that you can do this one more step to insure that families in need are covered. Cruz

I just saw on Facebook that the Eijido and the Bocce Ball group just today donated 50 more bags of food. | ------------Re: Repeating a little good news and requesting donations

Thanks for this. People need to be fed. | ------------Re: Repeating a little good news and requesting donations

Yes, Michael and Rosemary. People need help and both the Ejido and the Delegado are making efforts to help. They share their lists to avoid duplication. I like that by paying $140 pesos for 'dispensas', basic food supplies, people don't have to feel like their receiving a total handout. They are paying towards their way and is seen as an opportunity. The Delegado is saying thank you to someone that donated $1,000 pesos this morning. His plan is to identify families unable to come up with the $140 pesos this week. Our group is donating for 5 more family packages this week. What I will inquire about is how many family units and singles exist in LM and Los Hingenios. I'm curious. Thanks for listening.
