Agape and more balls
Posted by Cruz on June 11, 2020, 8:57 am
Oh dear, I almost forgot to post a request from Agape, the kids soccer coach, for more balls, soccer balls, that is, lol. Agape is starting up soccer practice again with the youngins and is needing balones. I bet those kids are ready to release. Please contact Agape with any donation at 315 110 8436. Any help will be appreciated in getting these kids back on the field. What about the virus? I don't know. Should we tell the kids that they should wear a mask to and from the sports field? Let me know your concerns. Cruz | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Wearing a mask during physical activity is not recommended. You could take in more carbon dioxide than oxygen in the process. Fútbol is a low risk activity. | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

And they will be practicing in the sun, which kills the virus. | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

There are different opinions the sun and the virus. But I think your blanket, unsubstantiated, statement is a dangerous assumption. The world Health Organization has said "There is no evidence that sunlight kills the new coronavirus." Source | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Not true, Nansee: the World Health Organization (WHO) added to the coronavirus “myth busters” page on its website: “Exposing yourself to the sun or to temperatures higher than 25C degrees DOES NOT prevent the coronavirus disease. You can catch COVID-19, no matter how sunny or hot the weather is. Countries with hot weather have reported cases of COVID-19.” (25 degrees Celsius equals 77 degrees Fahrenheit.)

I Googled COVID Soccer. There are many hits, including the following that seems to recommend focusing on developing and improving individual skills and examples of particular skills. I imagine this would be far easier if there are an adequate number of balls. So, hopefully your appeal for donations for balls is highly successful. https://www.soccercoachweekly.net/newsletters/a-time-for-individual-skills/ I Googled COVID Futbol and there are many hits in Spanish. I did not ascertain if any of them relate to coaching tips during COVID. | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Otra Vez donated a small amount for balls back in March...most likely enough for only a couple of balls...but as they would like to get out and about and Agape also has these kids pick up trash in and around the barrio..please have him call me and we will make another donation! And I will talk to him about practicing personal skills as well....351-7251! | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Hi Steph - I donated money for their uniforms and, as in previous years, the condition of the donation (so the children had an appreciation for them) was to gather trash after each game. I will get in touch with him also to donate cash for more soccer balls! | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Cruz, could you do me a favour, por favor? I would dearly love to buy 10 soccer balls for the kids down there but I don't know how many pesos that might amount to. I have a Paypal account and could easily transfer dinero right away to whoever down there that could in turn get it to Agape. Would you, or perhaps someone else reading this, be able to follow up and find out these costs and who to send it to. Happy to continue this off the board if you prefer (pablo@shaw.ca). | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Thank you, thank you, Pablo. I will find information for you ASAP. Agape was in Perula yesterday and I can't connect with him yet. Once we get the price you can send the $ to my PayPal account. I don't know any other way. I asked Agape what happened to the last balls. He said that the sports shed gotten broken into and that the balls and other equipment were taken. Now he will have to transport all equipment back and forth from his home to the field on his moto. Too bad. Cruz | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Hola, Pablo. Agape came by and said that the best price for a ball that will last is $250 pesos. He gets them from Cihuatlan. My Paypal address is my e-mail address. As a reminder from Valerie, we will be asking the kids to pick up any trash from the field. Again, gracias, Cruz | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Cruz and Pablo: PayPal is now deducting seven percent of the total amount of international money transfers (fees plus low exchange rate). Since you both have PayPal accounts, you can easily send money through Xoom, its affiliate, which charges a flat rate between $2.99 and $4.99 USD. However, Cruz would have to give Pablo her 18-digit routing number (CLABE) in order to do this. Because I work remotely for individuals and companies in other countries, I used to receive payment through PayPal's Friends & Family program ($1.00 USD fee). Since that program was abolished for any transfers outside of the USA, I asked my clients to switch to Xoom or add a seven percent surcharge to my invoice (which only the Chinese are willing to do). I offer this suggestion so that more of Pablo's generous contribution goes to the purchase of soccer balls rather than a greedy corporation. | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Oops! Maybe you both have US PayPal accounts and US bank accounts, in which case please ignore my suggestion. | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Several years ago, when the basketball court was used as a pickleball court for the first time, the net and equipment were immediately stolen. I think it was Conrado or Lety who told the group about another storage unit on the site that could be locked with a master lock (combiation or key), but I'm not sure because my pickleball career lasted only one day. (Too early, broken finger.) Perhaps Agape could ask about this possibility if no current pickleball player responds to this thread. | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Hola, Pablo, could you please e-mail me since my e-mail to you came back as not deliverable. Gracias Thank you James. As I was checking TransferWise to see how it would work I saw that you provided a fee free send. Now we just have to figure out how it can work and thus my e-mail to Pablo which was returned. Agape is aware that we are working to get the funds here. Thank you to Stephanie and Valerie for stepping up. We'll get these kids on the field. My virus concern and the kids wasn't about them. I was concerned ABOUT US and kids running around without masks getting to and from the sports field, lol. Yes, Lynne, I hope we can find a way around PayPal and I hope there is a secure way of storing equipment so that Agape doesn't have to schlep it all. Cruz

Hi Cruz, Sorry, my bad, must have been a "senior moment", couldn't even give you my correct email address - forgot a 't' in it. It's pablot@shaw.ca I realize Paypal charges a fee, but I'd rather just pay a little extra than have to muck around learning how to set up Xoom, Transferwise or other pay systems. So, as soon as I post this, I'll attempt to send you dinero via Paypal Cruz. I trust you'll let me know here or by email if it worked. And thank you so much for your help - you seem to have a lot on the go and I appreciate your time. | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Okay Cruz, I think it worked. At least the money got sent to Dolores Gomez. I hope that's you, Cruz! lol... So, I added in some for the transfer and then just rounded up to the nearest canuck buck, so there should be enough for 10 balls and maybe a bit left over for anything else Agape might need. | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Hola, Pablo. All is well and the Paypal transfer has been received. Now I'm working on receiving it to give to Agape, lol. Muchisimas gracias, Dolores but prefer Cruz PS: Thank you to responders as Agape has now increased his balls . | ------------Re: Agape and more balls

Yes, yesterday, before going to the dentista, Agape and I bought soccer balls. We got some ordinary ones for practice and will wait to get 3 or 4 official quality ones required for actual league games. The store was out but they will be coming in. So, my pleasure and thank you, Pablo. The kids start practice tomorrow and will pick up litter from the field. Later in the month they will participate in picking up trash around town. So, our players of the future are off and running and hopefully they will make LM more beautiful, lol, Cruz | ------------Re: Agape and more balls
