When I got my first Mexican driver's license many years ago in Guanajuato, I just told them my blood type, which is printed on the back of the now expired license. Then, when I moved to the coast, I stopped in the Cihuatlan office to ask if they would accept that as proof of my blood type because I faint if a single drop of blood is taken. They said that they would. (But since I no longer have a car, I haven't bothered to get a license in Jalisco; I just keep the old license as proof of my blood type in case i ever need one.) | ------------Re: Mexican drivers license

I actually renewed my Mexican Driver’s license about a year and a half ago. David C is right about the documents to take with you. The location of the DL office is now on the other side of the bus depot on the main bypass road through Chiuatlan going towards ZLO. You make a right turn just near/by Chicken Boy and go right to the bottom of the street, left hand side two doors or so before the corner. You will need to go into the office right beside the DL office to get a form before going into the DL office. They will take your picture and no actual driving test required. When I got my first license 4 years earlier I had to sit at a computer and answer 10 multiple choice questions in 10 minutes. There are actually something like 100 questions to study but they will only ask you to answer 10, and you won’t know which 10 ahead of time. I downloaded the 100 questions to study by googling Mexican Driver’s license test, or something like that. A fellow in Ajijic had posted both the test questions and the answers in English so I diligently studied them for a couple of hours and then winged it at the office. A friend who spoke Spanish went with me, they do want you to do that. Not to blow my own horn but I got all the answers right in 8 minutes. I was quite astounded! Now all this being said, we all know how quickly things change in Mexico, with any luck the procedure will still be similar to what I’ve described, but if I were you, I’d make the effort to track down all the 100 questions, and answers, and spend a bit of time studying. Valerie Denford also kindly gave me the questions but if I remember, not all the answers were there so the Ajijic fellow was a godsend. Good Luck! | ------------Re: Mexican drivers license

One more thing....Cruz is right, you will need to have your blood type. Benie, at the lab in Melaque beside the Centro de Salud, will do that and give you a little ‘card’ with it on. | ------------Re: Mexican drivers license

I went today, got there around 10:15 am, they said they only handle a certain number of people per day (they didn't say how many that was) and there were no more spaces for today. They start giving out numbers at 8:30 am. I have been without a drivers license for 20 years so I think I'm just going to extend that. Enough of this game. | ------------Need phone mumber
