A follow up to Tuesday’s clean up in the hood!

I took a drive through the hood last evening and it became really apparent that the major area to solve is the lack of garbage cans! Yes, it still looked pretty good after Tuesday’s cleanup, however, the small crates being used are the major culprit as the dogs get in them and spread the garbage out overnight! Aha, solution...get more cans, the big blues ones and distribute them through the hood! And so we are researching just that...buying more tambos and getting the best price and having them delivered here to be drilled and spread around in primarily the area South of the bridge where the population density is high and a direct route to the Tamarindo projects! This project is simple and not to be confused with Vicki’s public beach and tourist areas can distribution, nor is it a recycling project, although I did contact Lisa in hopes that two more large receptacles could be installed for plastic pickup and am hopeful that will follow! For those of you wishing to donate we have found that Western Union is available and easy to use at the OXXO right here in town! Otra Vez is pitching in 4,000 pesos which should cover the cost for approx. 15 large tambos but we have not found out what the delivery cost might be at this time but Mazinka is working on that to find the best source etc! Cost could be anywhere from 200-250 per tambo and they will be placed on the streets for all to use and perhaps cut back on the large plastic bags currently being used as well! So if you are interested in helping out please either reply here or pm me personally at swunner@earthlink.net or call 315-351-7251! With the local economy at a low and a long summer ahead buying garbage cans by the locals is not a high priority..but we can help solve the problem! I asked Francisco if there could be help from the Delgado and he hashis hands full with little funding from La Huerta in just allocating monies for food! Steph? did you check with the guys on the trash truck to OK the size you propose to use? Too large a can might get overlooked on purpose, heavy. rojo | ------------SRe: A follow up to Tuesday’s clean up in the hood!

I personally asked the garbage collectors which size they preferred and they said the big ones with the wide openings as opposed to the others with the narrower ones! | ------------Re: A follow up to Tuesday’s clean up in the hood!

In Ajijic, there are big hooks attached to telephone poles so residents can hang their bagged garbage high enough for the dogs and other interested animals to not be able to reach them. Any chance it might be a feasible short term, relatively inexpensive solution? | ------------ |
