Without having read these articles in their entirety, I'd like to observe the fact that North America encompasses Canada, AND the US, AND Mexico. So I'm not sure, from the bits I have read of the above, just what's meant by "closes border to North American travelers". Anyone? (p.s. Just so my Canadian cohorts know . . . I do know that traveller has two ells ... where we come from. :0) | ------------Re: Sonora governor closes border to North American travelers

Another regulation, aka complexity theater. This should have been announced a week (minimum) not two days before closure. It puts unnecessary stress on the border guards and all of the people. Stress is directly related to a healthy immune system. Google translation To strengthen prevention strategies in the face of the health emergency due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19), Governor Claudia Pavlovich Arellano announced that an operation will begin this weekend, with filters at the border, to stop the crossing of States. United towards Sonora, of people with non-essential activities. The state president indicated that, before the outbreak of infections registered in Arizona, in addition to the approach of a festive date in the United States, such as July 4, she asked Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Foreign Relations of Mexico, for support in make effective the border closure between Sonora and the United States for people with non-essential activities, who noted that it will be the National Institute of Migration (INM) who coordinates with the State Government to place filters at border crossings. "There will be filters at the borders, both in San Luis Río Colorado, as in Nogales, as in Agua Prieta, at the borders, to warn people that it cannot happen, unless it comes to something essential, not anything else to (the visitors of) the beaches but the municipalities of the mountains, we are all going to be on alert at this time, to prevent them from coming, whether they are countrymen, Americans or those who want to come to spend the weekend, and put a greater burden on us on the subject of Covid ”, he stated. In addition, Governor Pavlovich asked Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard for support so that in the different embassies and consulates in Arizona, people with non-essential activities are informed of this border closure, and thus prevent citizens from moving to border crossings, since access will only be allowed to people with essential activities such as work, commercial crossings and activities that have to do with health. She reiterated that essential activities such as those related to commercial exchange, work activities, medical care and services, acquisition of medicines and security, are maintained with authorization for crossings in both directions of the border. The head of the State Executive pointed out that another of the actions to be carried out in the entity will be the closure of beaches and navigation. Be careful, it is not only the filter of the border, it is the filter of the beach, it is the filter of the municipality where you want to go, if you want to go visit a person in a mountain region in towns of the Sonora River, in short, We already know which are the places that our countrymen or the Americans normally visit, ”he assured. Governor Pavlovich detailed in each of the filters that will be placed on the borders with the United States, elements from the health sector, from the National Institute of Migration, as well as security elements from different levels of government will be present.
