Information on Potential Covid-19 Case
Posted by Cruz at cruzio13@gmail.com on July 8, 2020, 2:26 pm
Hola. My group is wanting me to share the information we have gathered on the possible Covid-19 infection of a local resident that is being investigated by La Huerta. This is not to alarm unnecessarily but to inform the community that doesn't use FaceBook that a potential case might have surfaced in LM and to be even more cautious in case it proves to be so. The person in question, per our Delegado, is being held in La Huerta awaiting test results. Hopefully, we will be informed once the results are in. Anyone that hears of or gets reliable information on this, please post on this Board. What has been confirmed is the infection of a Tamarindo worker. His entire crew has been sent away, not fired as I originally reported to my group, so as to contain contagion. Kudos to Tamarindo for being responsible, but the fact exists that someone going through or living in our community was positive for the virus. His fellow workers were seen leaving LM last night. I wish that people that knew about this development had reported it on this Board. Not all of us use FaceBook or whatever else people communicate on. I think an informed community is a must in these times. With this finding in our pueblo, maybe now more residents will be believers that caution needs to exist and be exercised. Let's all remain calm and deliberate in our actions as stress contributes to vulnerability. And be careful not to spread needless rumors as I almost did, lol. We need reliable facts not fake news, . Where was he living? We should know. Four seasons should shut down construction. | ------------Re: Information on Potential Covid-19 Case

Behind the schools, uphill on the way to Gringo Gulch. It seems like the entire neighborhood is now sprayed with cane alcohol and drinking tea made of honey, limes, and aspirin. | ------------Re: Information on Potential Covid-19 Case

Hola, Jean. It appears that 4-seasons, or whomever is in charge, has been vigilant in identifying virus existence in their workers to keep their work area safe and operating. I think they have a safer environment from the bug there than we do here in LM, with masks, hand washing areas, sanitizing gel and inspections. As far as I'm concerned their building should never have started in the first place because they are a constant problem in ways now, those horrible trucks, and in the foreseeable future, draining our aquifers, etc, etc. I think a safe bet, Jean, is to think the potentially infected person lived in every part of this village. LM is not large and he was everywhere. What I do hope is that we in LM are notified when a Covid-19 case is identified. For now, we are relying on or hoping that someone will tell us. This is not a secure feeling. We want information, I think. Would someone like to go with me to ask the Delegado to put town notification into place so we don't have to be wondering? This goes for suspected cases too, I think. Cruz | ------------Re: Information on Potential Covid-19 Case

It’s possible that someone brought it back from chithuatlan or Manzanillo which is getting more and more cases originating in the port...daily. Or someone got off a bus with it and sneezed. It would be naive to think that it will not...sooner or later get to LM and if there was a protocol in place for ALL people to wear masks the risk of spreading when it does arrive would be reduced. For example ..It is not cool that Lydia and Ricardo don’t wear masks in the store. Actually when we left in the beginning of June the ONLY people wearing masks were gringos. In Boulder where I live in the summer one can not enter a store or walk on the mall or a park or virtually anywhere without wearing one...it’s mandatory. Why not talk to Francisco about that???

Both Lidia and Enrique were wearing masks this morning, and they dosed me with hand sanitizer when I entered and departed. I expect (hope) a lot of stores will revisit their safety precautions now that the virus is here. | ------------Re: Information on Potential Covid-19 Case

Is that the only business you frequented? There were many people wearing the masks in early June. What is the penalty in Boulder for not wearing a mask? | ------------Re: Information on Potential Covid-19 Case

Hi Cruz, Thanks for your clear and concise information. My apologies for highjacking your post. Earlier this week there was a thread asking for help to raise funds for C19 testing. I was informed that this request was premature. However I had already asked for donations. I discussed what to do with the donors and they told me to use the money to help any covid related cases. So 4,250 pesos has been given to the Delgado for this purpose. Thanks Cruz! | ------------Re: Money

The local couple who tested positive today for Covid-19 said that a friend helped them pay for the tests, which cost $1,100 pesos each at a lab in Cihuatlan. (The results came back in six hours.) So perhaps your foresight was prescient, Heidi, since your request for donations was not all that premature. This couple (who also posted their experience on the La Manzanilla Life FB page) are notifying all their contacts, many of whom will resumably want to be tested for the actual coronavirus, not antibodies. | ------------Re: Money

Lynne, Maybe it is time for a serious callout for financialb assistance. I fear this may overwhelm us. Once again I would like to offer up my truck should anyone need to be transported, a mattress can be put in back. It could be sheltered. Drivers must be protected as well. I will assist with the gentleman who needs oxygen tanks. Take care and i hope you reach out!834301 | ------------Re: Money

I have been in close contact with the local couple who have it, and the doctor advised that if I want to know if I HAVE the virus I need to wait until I have the symptoms. The blood test will only tell if you have the ANTIBODIES (which means you have HAD the virus) but you need a nasal smear to see if you HAVE the virus. | ------------Re: Money

From reading an article about nursing home patients in the US who are repeatedlly tested for Covid-19 with a painful nasal smear, I knew that this is the standard protocol "up there." But now I'm confused about the availabiity of local testing. The test at the lab in Melaque and the more expensive test (with faster results?) in Cihuatlan are both blood tests that can only detect antibodies? And where do you go for the nasal smear if you actually have symptoms? Also, many thanks to Heidi for helping my neighbors and the community at large with your generous donations and other offers of assistance. (You don't need to ask for translation help on the La Manzanilla Life FB page because users can choose to read each post in their own language.) Viva La Manzanilla! | ------------Re: Money

I believe one gentleman was tested in La Huerta and is now home and needs assistance with the cost of oxygen tanks. He was symptomatic at testing. | ------------
