And now we do know...

Our little pueblo has been infected...and thanks to those who came out to tell us! The bubble could not last here...and now we know.what to do? I would hope everyone here is taking extra precautions now and that we would all help support those who might get sick, either emotionally, financially if needed....or just a kind word! It took a lot for those folks to come forward, no one should be ostracized nor demeaned...it could happen to any one of us now and I would surely like to think there would be some assistance if it happens to those around me! My 2 pesos for the day! | ------------Re: And now we do know...

They got tested on the 7th and it was supposed to take 5 days to get the results but got them in 2? Was it a swab test or blood? Are they going to do a second test? From what I read they are running about a 50% accuracy. Is the person in the hospital or home? How sick are they? Edit - "It took a lot for those folks to come forward," so why don't we know their name? And if not that then where do they work, how many people did they contact? Do they have any idea where they may have picked it up? | ------------Re: And now we do know...

It is not my place to share their names or their story..but am sure if you have questions...as it seems you want more info..they posted on Manzanillo Life...full story...and were very forthcoming with my questions this morning! I despise gossip and third and fourth hand stories bantered about! Best to go to the source..again my two pesos! | ------------Re: And now we do know...

To make it easier to find, the Facebook group is called La Manzanilla Life (in English). For those who abhor Facebook, it's easy to set up an account, join this particular group, and ignore all other Facebook features. I've found it to be the best and easiest way to keep up with information shared by the local Mexican community, as well as their perspective on matters of concern and ideas that do not appear on the Message Board due to the language barrier. | ------------Re: And now we do know...

My computers immediately translate Facebook posts (and everything else) into English, but the translations are quite weird, so I have to read the original posts in Spanish to make sense of them. Also, I was never able to open a link to a Facebook page until I had a Facebook account, which is why I gave in, set one up, and don't post links that any FB user can find using the group name. | ------------Re: And now we do know...

Are you using Windows or Mac? What browser are you using? I don't have an account and had no problem linking to the pages, (once I found them) I assume the links are working for peoople. I just copy pasted the URL (page address) from the top of the browser. | ------------Re: And now we do know...

Good to know! In the old days, a link to FB wouldn't open if the user didn't have a FB account, which is why I posted the group name instead of a link. I have Windows computers and use Google Chrome as my default browser because it automatically translates everything to the language you designate in settings. Because I work in several different languages, I can change the setting to a different language if need be, then change it back to English. As for FB, you can click on the language of your choice for each post, although the translations are usually quite hysterical. I really do recommend checking the La Manzanilla Life FB page now and then, which is where I find out everything that Alma neglects to tell me. ;-) | ------------So the question here is. now we know?..

Is this outbreak due to the Tamarindo worker (haven't heard much lately) or about the people who came forward in the La Manzanilla Life thread? Looking for clarification please... | ------------Re: So the question here is. now we know?..

I'm pretty sure this outbreak came from a wet market in Wuhan China | ------------Re: And now we do know...

I've said this many times now--the tests that Paul and Josefina were given in Melaque were antibody tests. I believe results are quicker with them. It means that they had--perhaps asymptomatically--the virus, and now their bodies have developed antibodies to it. Scientists don't seem to know yet how long the antibodies stay in a human body, so even if you have antibodies, it doesn't necessarily give you permanent immunity. | ------------Re: And now we do know...

Does anyone know the reliability of the antibody test? What is the percentage of accuracy? Should one take another test? I drove by the lab in Melaque today, there was a line of about 8 people waiting. | ------------Re: And now we do know...

Reliability of the antibody test depends on a lot of variables. Two examples of variables are length of time from initial infection and type of test used. Some manufacturers are less reliable than others. Also other possible corona virus exposures (common cold) will trigger the antibody test. Most doctors recommend that positive antibody tests be followed with the viral test to see if the infection is current. Here is one source that explains some of the antibody test variables. It’s two months old, but the info is current. https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/why-the-accuracy-of-sars-cov-2-antibody-tests-varies-so-much-67513

OK, thanks Scott, good work. Certainly enough information to cast some doubt on the outcome. This article is from May 5, which was two months ago so there should be an update. Does anyone know the name of the test kit (if it was one) that was used for the positive test being discussed in this thread? | ------------
