Except, opting out of owning a vehicle a few years ago my bicycle and I augment our feet with the bus systems. In these times, pondering and observing the idea of getting in a metal tube with an unknown quantity of unknowns gives me pause. The temptation has been steadily growing. "Should I stay or should I go?".
Chugging up the calle a few days ago, a few blocks away there was a Autocamiones del Pacifico motor coach headed my way. As I was in the same block as the bus station the decision was made to see what is what with the cubreboca situation on the bus.
Parking, waiting and watching a percentage count would indicate if the mandatory mouth covering signage on the bus door actually meant anything.
The driver did not have coverage, the passengers were maybe 35% covered. Commonly observed, families would leave and enter the bus with possibly a husband or a wife with facial covering, but almost never the children. Very rarely both the man and woman would both have protection.
While making this observation a second bus pulled up, again with an open-faced driver (not to be confused with a sandwich). The passenger situation was basically the same.
These are not favorable odds. Especially since those buses quite likely transited through Guadalajara. As of today the Mexican gov. reports over 19,000 cases of COVID in the greater Guadalajara metropolitan area. It is also reported that a second (or third? or fifth?) wave is on the uptick.

Most of the Mexicans that I have asked tell me that the numbers are not to be trusted that the gummint has a history of expressing less than reality. What does not lie is seeing the bus, the driver, the passengers.
We all make our own choices. For me: Err on the side of caution, patience is not only a virtue but maybe a lifesaver....blah blah blah
The full moon and venus are particularly beautiful now and my old friend Orion is there, reliable and steady. It all looks good from here.
