The truck driver collects and distributes tips to the crew.
The brave garbage truck crew collects and delivers garbage to the landfill from households, businesses, and public wastes cans year-round. It is physically hard and dangerous labor. They are truly valiant, underpaid and overworked, especially during Christmas, Easter and school holidays. The amount of garbage has been less in this bizarre year, but so have their tips.
The garbage truck begins their route in the wee hours of the morning and it may therefore be difficult to tip them. Last year, Stephanie agreed to collect and deliver their tips. I assume she is still game to make that happen.
La Huerta pays another person to deliver dumpsters to the landfill. I think he also deserves tips, especially from households and businesses who deposit their wastes in dumpsters.
Speaking of wastes:
An individual deployed 5 or 10 public waste cans in Los Ingenios circa 2017.
La Manzanilla Hermosa deployed 50 public waste cans in La Manzanilla in 2019. We intended to add 60 more in 2020. We did not, because we depended on a truck driver's seasonal produce run from La Manzanilla to Guadalajara (he was able to return loaded with cans). He did not make any runs because of the coronavirus. We hope to touch up paint on existing cans this year. It could happen . . . no promises.
In Summer 2020, Stephanie and the bookstore deployed 30 waste cans for households to use. Good on you, Stephanie!!
Many volunteers remove litter from our beach and streets.
This Summer, the Green Team formed and sprang into magnificent action, before and after Tropical Storm Hernán. Four Seasons deployed workers to clear the beach and streets after the storm.
Thanks to so many, the streets, beach, and Bahía de Tenacatita are more plastic-free each year. Less is more.
La Manzanilla Hermosa is doing less litter patrol each year because so many others are doing so much. I am extremely grateful and extend a huge virtual hug to you all.
Respectfully,
