I have zero problems getting cash, online purchases is the banking service
that is lacking.
This credit card movie has a few chapters. Want to hear my Banco
Azteca chapter?
TLDR - it didn't work out.
So I go with my translator to Banco Azteca in Melaque. Its a Friday
morning and the bank is full of people, a few I know from La Manzanilla.
I open an account and in the process of applying for a credit card there
is some issue with my voter ID card not being in the system (I am
a Mexican citizen for some 12 years) so they can't complete the
process and tell me to come back again when someone who knows the
system better can help me.
The only way to access the new Aztec account that I have just set
up is via an app (not the usual website banking I am used to). I
jump in and learn the app, it wants a photo of my face, but every time
I try to complete that part of he process it says I am wearing a mask
(due to my white beard).
So I go through various stages of shaving trying to appease the app
but don't succeed in eliminating the request to remove the mask until
I am completely shaven clean!
I go to a website to verify my voter ID and find that I am in
the system, no problem.
A couple of days later I go again (with translator) to
show them printed proof that I am in the system hoping to get the
credit card. We get there around 9:30 am and have to wait for the
right person to show up.
After about 20 minutes the person does show up but goes directly to
the back room. After about 20 minutes I poke my head through the
door into that back room and find all of the bankers (with the exception
of a teller) sitting around eating. I ask when they will be helping
me and they say soon.
I wait about another 20 minutes and then come to the conclusion that
Banco Aztec is not going to happen and leave.
I am a bit tiffed but then a day or so later I realize that
Banco Aztec it open 7 days a week from 9 am to 9 pm. And that
with those demands the workers are forced to intergrate their
lives with work, and come to understand their behavior a bit
better. Banco Aztec may think they are open those days and hours
but they are only fooling themselves.
