I just did an inventory. The things I am growing that are really easy, they seem to look after themselves:
Carambola (starfruit) both sweet and sour trees
Limón
Platanos
Camote (sweet potatoes)
Chayote - grows on a vine, so put it up against a support.
Jícama - very easy, as pests don’t like it.
Nopal cactus
I planted a guanabana, a very delicious fruit, outside the yard. When it gets fruits, the neighborhood can help themselves.
Oralia’s avocados are a really good variety for here. She is selling them for 10 pesos each. What a bargain, for huge, organic aguacates. I’m saving the seeds, and looking for suggestions as to where to plant them. It grows into a big tree, anyone have an idea?
I need some advice re ginger and curcumin (turmeric), but I hear they will do very well, too.
For me, the greens, like lettuce, arugula, purslane, etc. are a little fussier. They seem to get attacked by pests, but I keep trying.
I put a beetroot in the ground, and it’s slowly sending up leaves, one of my favourite greens. The seeds did not germinate
Does anyone have some kale plants to share, or some seeds?
