One trick to improve your speed is to use a LAN cable and wire your computer directly to one of the 4 modem LAN (not WAN) ports if possible. Even if you have to run a cable 50 or 100', this is by far the best option.
WiFi range extenders, while they can help out, can also cut your speed in half because many are cheap simplex or half duplex units. If they use full duplex your modem speed will be maintained.
If you must use wireless, buying a decent quality Ubiquiti, TP-Link, Linksys or D-Link router; getting a length of LAN cable and taking the time and effort to mount it free and clear of obstructions is the best option to improve signal quality and range while maintaining full duplex service. The many antennas on a good router are there for what is called 'space diversity' because a WiFi signal quickly becomes very scattered once it gets to your computer... or from your computer to the modem/router.
