I would like to tell about the needs of three LM residents that could use some help and support this season and Christmas:
-Everardo, 83 years old and with no family here, has sat at his doorway all day long for two years, facing into the street to hear because he can't see and he prepares his food by touch and feel. At 17 he lost one eye and the remaining eye has developed a cataract, rendering him basically blind. For a person in his situation, he is in tact and clear. I am so surprised that he hasn't gone crazy. He complains quietly of being so bored.
Everardo needs a cataract operation of course but minimally he needs prepared Mexican meals, social interaction and assistance.
-Agustin, the bicycle repair person, has one leg. Even so he would ride a bike, though falling often. A few months ago he took a really bad fall and injured his lower back enough that it put him out of commission. With loss of income and the Covid-19 economy, he was forced to sell his bike.
He had a wonderful massage on the beach and has mended enough now that he could ride and we could see him in town again, but alas he has no bike. Me thinks he could use a three wheeler which would maybe keep him safer from hitting the dirt all the time.
-Rita, our beloved storyteller and friend, is going on home dialysis right now as I share her story and need. She can use help with both the hospital bill and the daily expense coverage of 4 procedures per day, starting once she gets home. Any financial help would be appreciated.
Gracias for listening, Cruz
