British Columbia
The province’s top doctor, Bonnie Henry, said the province plans to vaccinate 150,000 people by February.
Who are the priorities?
Initially, people in long-term care, those waiting to be moved into long-term care, and health-care workers who care for COVID-19 patients. Remote Indigenous communities are also prioritized.
Between February and March, B.C. the priority list will be expanded to those 80 and older, and Indigenous people age 65 and older. Those in jails and homeless shelters, group homes, hospital staff and general practitioners and other Indigenous communities will be included in this phase.
Targets?
B.C. plans to have the vaccine available to everyone by the end of 2021. The province says herd immunity will be reached once 60 to 70 per cent of residents receive the vaccine.
When will non-priority people get the shots?
“Following all priority groups, all others in B.C. can get vaccinated as more vaccine becomes available, if the vaccines available are recommended for them,” the government says.
How will you know it’s your turn?
The province is working on a registration system where people can sign up to get the shot as it becomes available.
Will there be a notice that you’ve been vaccinated?
The province says there will be a “record of immunization,” but does not specify what that looks like.
