The Jalisco govt is realizing there is a big problem with Covid. They set up a tent in the Melaque jardín for free rapid testing. I believe it is open from 9 am - 3 pm., in front of the Church.
1,000 tests will be given each month. The results will be available in 15 minutes. Anyone with positive results will be sent home to quarantine for 2 weeks to break the chain.

May I ask where you heard about the testing in Melaque?
Tanks for the link.
IMO Puerto Vallarta Daily has become the CNN of Internet media. You couldn't make a more fear mongering report if you tried. I am going to stop reading their paper.

Folks are talking about it on the Costalegre FB page. I believe the testing is being done by the UdeG (Universidad de Guadalajara) . Here is a link to the page about Melaque. We know some people here in LM who are sick- wondering if they can go to get this test
UdeG and the government of Jalisco open new modules for COVID-19 detection in five regions of the State
They will carry out a thousand monthly tests in university centers of each of these venues: Ameca, Autlán de Navarro, Lagos de Moreno, Melaque and Tlajomulco de Zúñiga In addition to the ten laboratories for the application of PCR tests, the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) and the government of Jalisco open five more locations to perform antigen tests and detect more cases of COVID-19, with a reliability percentage similar to that of PCR, but with the advantage that it gives results in 15 minutes.
The General Rector of this House of Study, Dr. Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, said at a press conference that both instances have joined efforts to contain infections in the entity - which in recent days has registered an increase of more than 200 percent - through timely detection.
“The only way out of this is to be united and coordinated, government and society. It is a moment that we have already seen in other parts of the world, and fortunately Jalisco has been managing this growth very calmly, which has allowed us to continue generating capacities, to continue preventing, to continue saving lives, ”he declared.
The UdeG will have detection centers through antigen tests in Autlán and Melaque, administered by the University Center of the South Coast (CUCSur); at the Tlajomulco University Center (CUTlajomulco; at the Los Lagos University Center (CULagos), based in Lagos de Moreno and at the Los Valles University Center (CUValles), based in Ameca.
“With the purchase made by the state government of about 60,000 antigen tests since last year, it gave us the possibility of approaching the regions of the State with five more modules where we do not have PCR equipment. At the territorial level, we will have an important regional coverage to bring all Jalisco residents to a point of diagnosis ”, he explained.
The Rector of the University Center for Health Sciences (CUCS) and Coordinator of the Health Situation Room, Dr. José Francisco Muñoz Valle, explained that these antigen testing modules will be different from the PCR laboratories that had been installed so far, but they will effectively identify positive cases.
To perform this, a swab sample is taken inside the nose, which is then passed to a device that can detect the S protein (spike) of SARS-CoV-2. If the virus is present in the body, the sample device remains immobilized in the T line.
These tests give a result in 15 minutes, with 93.12 percent sensitivity and 100 percent specificity, and are endorsed by Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (Indre), with the official number DGE-DSAT-16490-2020.
Muñoz Valle explained that the modules have the capacity to perform up to 50 tests a day, and approximately 1,000 a month. People should make an appointment at the phone number 33-3540-3001.
The General Strategic Coordinator for Social Development of Jalisco, Ana Bárbara Casillas García, pointed out that this is an important effort to carry out detection tests, particularly at a critical moment in the pandemic that the entity is experiencing.
The Secretary of Health of Jalisco, Dr. Fernando Petersen Aranguren, recalled that at the beginning of the pandemic, Jalisco had four laboratories to carry out PCR tests, and ten months later there are 18 laboratories and detection modules for both PCR and antigens for break the chains of contagion.
They invited the population not to lower their guard and to maintain precautionary measures such as the correct use of the mask in the mouth and nose, frequent hand washing or application of antibacterial gel, social distance, avoiding crowds or attending meetings and parties, staying in home for as long as possible and reinforce care for older adults.
The Rector of CUCSur, Dr. Lilia Oliver Sánchez, said that the two new modules (in Autlán and Melaque) with antigen tests will help identify cases in a region where fewer tests have been carried out, in addition to Melaque being an area tourist destination to which Mexican and foreign visitors arrive.
The Executive Coordinator of CUTlajomulco, Dr. Irma Leticia Leal Moya, assured that there is much concern about the high rate of infections in that municipality, which registers 7,233 cases and 300 deaths, so having a module will facilitate the detection of positive cases.
The Rector of CULagos, Dr. Aristarco Regalado Pinedo, pointed out that the region will benefit from the joint effort between the UdeG and the State government, since in recent days there has been an "alarming" increase in cases of up to 60 percent and Inhabitants go to Aguascalientes and León for tests.
The Rector of CUValles, Dr. Miguel Ángel Navarro Navarro, recalled that this region does not have an urban transport service, which makes it difficult to travel to perform the tests. The module will provide residents with an accessible place to carry them out.

This was on Facebook Jan 16 but no location or hours provided. Thanks David Dagoli
So happy to see that you guys are being proactive and that there are testing places near you now. David is so right, everyone must take this seriously. It’s bad enough here in Canada but I sure wouldn’t want to have to go to hospital in Mexico, if you could even get in one. The Christmas season didn’t help one bit with so many people coming to the beach maskless. As it is droplet spread, being outdoors is better but not at all risk free. People are now wearing masks all the time on the streets and outdoors here now. I’ve spent the last few months struggling with not coming down, first time in almost 40 years, but I know it’s just not the right thing to do for so many reasons. My mantra is ‘this too shall pass’, just don’t know when. Stay safe, stay healthy all of you.
So with the red alert being given for the 'entire' state of Jalisco, I would like to understand why I cannot find a store where the employees WEAR MASKS and follow other procedures like limiting persons at a time etc.... Oxxo is the only place that has that requirement. Store owners have some responsibility....no?

I just read a report by someone in the Melaque jardin who says they are shitting down for the day, and he asked how many tests were don, and was told ‘none'. Mexicans see only problems if they get the test

Sure would have liked a link to the source for that.
If true, I guess I am a bit surprised, or maybe I should say surprised that I am surprised? Only thing I can think of is they are afraid of the stigma or the possibility of government restriction.
I don't know what info the testers are requiring but if it includes a name / address etc then they may want to make it more anonymous. Perhaps just an email address or give out a number or...
Since there is not a line I may pop in for a free test, I for one want to know my status.

Re Daniel’s post. Why would would the Canadian govt. pay the cost for people returning home when they strongly advised against travel outside the country?
The govt. is now contemplating the ban on all flights incoming from Mexico. Given the continuing failure of the Mexican govt. to contain the virus it is little wonder.
Great that Jalisco is getting serious. Guess it is not for us to judge how the Mexicans react to these restrictions. We can only control our own behaviour.
Stay safe.

Apparently they are only testing people who have symptoms consistent with Covid.

I just read through the website translation above and saw nothing about it. I have tried to call the number but its busy.
I gotta say how much this sucks, every god damned bit of information be that this test or the Canadian requirements or whatever is saturated in misinformation and confusion. Its just sad.
