I'm delighted to announce that the ambulance is back in service and is running better than ever! A big thank you to mechanic Ramón and his diesel mechanic brother, Gabriel. We were immediately called into service on Saturday, the night of the rodeo, to help an injured person at the jardin. Two of our men plus the new doctor from the Central de Salud were able to treat and transport the injured man successfully.
I hope that our community can see by now that the ambulance is providing a vital service to La Manzanilla. We operate completely by donations, and so, of course, we will be having a fund-raiser starting on Friday. We'll be raffling off three wonderful pieces of art, a sculpture from Dave Kasprick, a mosaic from Mazinka, and a painting from Carol Lopez. I will have the art on display at tianguis this coming Friday, and I'll post photos so that people at a distance can participate.
Our team is so dedicated to providing this service that they volunteered to accept a lower fee for each call so that they can operate longer during this time of low donations. Please help us to continue providing this invaluable service by making a donation and/or buying raffle tickets.
I'm starting on Friday at tianguis. After that the pieces will be on display at the Lab for a week, and then at the Galeria after that. More details will follow.
I'm extremely grateful that the ambulance was operational when I had a medical emergency last November. The crew was not only skilled and professional but also courteous and kind. They definitely deserve our highest praise and continued community support. I plan on buying raffle tickets and, if I win, I'll donate the prize back to the ambulance fund.
