As soon as the ambulance was running again in the beginning of February, in fact, the very day we were back in service, we started getting calls. We completed 7 service calls for the month of February, ranging from the results of a criminal action, to motorcycle accidents, to several trips to the hospital with the sick and the elderly.
The team gets paid $500p for each call they go on. Some calls are very short and amount to checking a person’s vitals and making sure they are okay, to having to wait for hours at the Manzanillo or Cihuatlán hospitals until the ER doctors dismiss them, to providing life-saving techniques at the scene of an accident.
The team has attended many training sessions for which they are not paid. Sometimes the trainings are provided free of charge, and sometimes we have to pay to attend. So with the cost of the pay for the team, insurance, repairs, registration, and medical supplies, each call costs us approximately $1500p, or $10,500p for the calls we made in February.
Many have asked about the results of the raffle. We managed to raise $61,409p, or enough to do approximately 41 service calls. If nothing else comes up, that amount will cover the costs for 3-4 calls per month for 12 months, but as you can see by looking at the month of February, we often have more than 3-4 calls, and something always comes up!
I hope all this detail is not overwhelming. I felt it was important for you all to see exactly where we stand. I think everyone agrees that the ambulance service is a real boon to our community. Please continue to support us in any way possible.
BTW, we are hoping to train 2 more people for the team. If you or someone you know is interested in being a hero and helping others while learning invaluable skills, and earning some money as well, please contact me.
Thank you for your attention and your support.
