Have you noticed that when someone is a stranger, he/she is likely to greet you with "Hola" or "Buen Dia," but a good friend or someone you know very well will say "Adios" which, like the French word "Adieu," means "to God." It doesn't really matter if that person is arriving or leaving or just passing by; it's the relationship between you that determines the greeting or parting words. At least that's what I learned in the Warren Hardy Spanish School years ago, and it seems to hold true all over Mexico. I love feeling worthy of an "A+dios."|
