If your bored here is the story of the white modem.
A few weeks ago I was showing property (I am going to generalize this so I don't Dox anybody) and I entered into this space where all the doors and windows were closed with the air conditioning on. The person welcomed me and the buyers, I saw them sitting at a chair with a stack of processors and asked what they did? Some kind of video work, they can pack all the computer power they need in a back pack.
Behind their head was a white router, I asked about it, they said it was Telcell, the router cost about $150 usd and it was $40 usd per month with 50 Mbs down and up! (They had a direct line of vision to the cell tower).
I was obviously impressed, much as a student of mind would be upon meeting a guru, and wanted to kneel at their feet for a time hoping to graduate to a seat next to them to learn. But work took precedence and it hasn't happened yet (maybe someday).
About a week or so later I told a friend that I had gone to Manzanillo to have the battery changed in my iPhone. They said Tony Fix could have done that and they are right here in La Manzanilla. I have driven by Tony Fix many times, it always looks closed and in my mind I imagined behind that door was things like washing machines and fans in a various states of disrepair and repair.
So now today in search for the white modem solution I thought of Tony Fix (it may have been mentioned in my message board search). So I get into the car and drive there.
On the door it says I have to wear a mask... ok I put one on and slide the glass sliding door open to find a computer store/ repair place, a nerd lives here! Be still my beating heart, a surge of endorphins occurs.
Tony greets me. On the counter is a box with the great white modem in it. Tony don't speak English and my Spanish is for shit but we manage to get the modem out of the box, put the chip from my cell phone in it and Tony makes it work for me. 50 Mb up and down, big time blood flow.
Tony is very accommodating and we work our way from having the chip from my cell phone in the modem to it having its own chip with $500 pesos of credit on it! Tony writes down the very tiny access key from the modem and the phone number. All I have to do is take it to Jan and tell her to plug it in and plug the CAT5 cable into her computer and its a done deal.
At Barry's Jan's computer doesn't have a CAT5 cable outlet so she has to find the device on the wireless options. She does, puts in the WPA code that Tony wrote down for me and BAM, she is online big time. I leave.
End of story.
I hope she finds what Barry needs and give my best to Barry.
