More for those with interest.
Your question would be more properly address to those who have lost everything (I haven't) to a fire or a tornado etc. How do they keep "optimism, determination, resilience"?
Its like the old couple you see being interviewed on the news saying "This is the fifth time we have lost our home to a tornado, we will rebuild". The reporter as why? The answer usually is "we like it here". (off camera they continue saying "its keeps us busy and there is nothing old in our house, it all gets replaced for free every 5 years or so".
It's the same for people who live in fire, tornado, hurricane, earthquake etc. areas who loose everything and say "we will rebuild". But the real answer is more than "we like it here". Its their home, where their friends and family are and most likely where they grew up i.e, its familiar, they are in love with it.
Throw into that mix Optimism bias (what will eventually be our doom) and you got what I hope is the answer to your question
