Anyone here have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?
Posted by James F on February 17, 2021, 6:19 pm
I signed up for the vaccine using my CURP online. I got a call this morning but my Spanish on the phone was not good enough to tell if it was verifying I still wanted the vaccine or to give me an appointment (or maybe it was something else entirely). I thought I had successfully given them another number to call (with someone fluent in Spanish) but have not had another call. Has anyone else got the call or had an appointment or got the shot? I see on social media that people for Melaque and Barra are being sent to the IMSS hospital in Cihuatlan. The call I had was from this number in case someone did get a call and recognizes it. 5547743009 (Mexico City). Thanks for any input. | -----------------------Re: Anyone here have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?

Could I ask when you signed up? Am trying to keep track of dates, etc. We used our email address, but to date, have not received any contact. Thank you in advance. | -----------------------Re: Anyone here have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?

I Signed up on Feb 9. I got a confirmation folio number at that time and I was told to wait for a phone call to schedule date and place. | -----------------------Re: Anyone here have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?

Got my first shot today inChihuatlan! A friend helped me through the sign up early this morning and was home by 3:30! Have heard they were already full for Thursday but have friends that got in on Friday! For now and possibly forever, you need to have a CURP number printed on your resident permanente card! Those in our group without the perm residence were not allowed to get the first of two shots! It was also AstraZeneca! Strongly advise you to have someone with fluent Spanish help you along or even go with you to the location! Good luck! | -----------------------Re: Anyone have experience with the Mexican vaccine process? (Transportation Concern)

Perhaps if people posted the date and time of their appointment, we could car pool if our appointments are close together. Put another way, I'm pretty sure that those of us without vehicles would gladly pay the driver for gas and any other expenses on the trip to Cihuatlan. It would be ironic to contract Covid-19 on a public bus, whose passengers are rather careless about safety protocols, on the way to or from a vaccination appointment. I'm not the least bit concerned about the Spanish, just the mode of transportation. (I just registered tonight in about three minutes by turning off the auto-translate on Google Chrome.) | -----------------------Re: Anyone have experience with the Mexican vaccine process? With the help of Rhonda, we registered on Feb. 15th and asked for them to notify us by email in the comment section at the bottom. Hope it works as our Mexican phone line is down and we have USA cell phone numbers. I don't know if we have an automatic Google translate on, but could not register using my computer - had to use Rhonda's. | -----------------------Re: Anyone have experience with the Mexican vaccine process? Just be prepared to be turned away. The vaccination centres are set up by municipality and for their respective residents (this was announced on national news) and La Manz is in La Huerta. Also you now have to call up one of a set of phone numbers for a given location to set your appointment. Yesterday people who turned up in Cihuatlán and didn't have the appointment were turned away. | -----------------------Re: Anyone have experience with the Mexican vaccine process? As far as I know La Huerta has not yet been started on or set up. So far this morning I have tried several dozen times to call the Cihuatlán numbers and to no success. I was speaking to a couple who went along yesterday with their registration that they had done online but were told to go away and call the numbers to set up the appointment. The numbers for Cihuatlán are: 331 367 9331 315 100 0006 315 152 5830 But as I say, I haven't been able to get through on them, I imagine they are busy vaccinating people at the moment. | -----------------------Re: Anyone have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?

Last night, shortly after posting my transportation concern, I saw that Elke had posted the Cihuatlan numbers to call on the La Manzanilla Life Facebook page. However, as you pointed out, La Manzanilla is in the municipality of La Huerta, not Cihuatlan. So now I'm really confused. Are there different numbers to call for residents of La Huerta who have registered online? If so, should we all get together and try to schedule our appointments one after the other? | -----------------------Re: Anyone here have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?

I am confused. Don't we have to be contacted first and then make an appointment? If we have a registration #, can we call the listed Cihuatlan numbers to make an appointment? Also, where is the IMSS hosital where the vaccinations are being given? What is it about the process that is necessitating having a Spanish speaking person with you? The more information we share, the better for all of us. Thank you. | -----------------------Re: Anyone here have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?

The original plan was yes to wait and be contacted, however that changed here in Cihuatlán, other areas I cannot answer for. As for calling the Cihuatlán numbers, you can call them, but I don't know if you will be given an appointment as you are not residents of Cihuatlán municipality. I know some people got them on the first day or two but supposedly that has been stopped to stop people jumping ahead of their municipality's turn. The IMSS clinic in Cihuatlán is located on the street Primero de Mayo, to get there you take the lateral heading towards town and turn left at the traffic lights by the graveyard, it is a couple of blocks up on the left. There is a lot of uncertainty at the moment and solid info is hard to find. What I have written is from what I have been told when I phoned up for my mum and first hand experiences from friends who have been. | -----------------------Re: Anyone here have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?

The plot thickens! Today I stopped into Don Raul's tienda, across from the primary school, to buy cat food on my way to feed the critters at Cat Central. His wife asked me if I had been vaccinated yet; I replied that I had registered online last night but, as of this morning, there was a lot of confusion about whether we would be called to set up an appointment or had to call ourselves--possibly to a number in La Huerta, rather than Cihuatlan. She said that she would still wait for her appointment call, and that her husband had already been vaccinated in the first group of 10 from La Manzanilla. So then I talked to Don Raul, who confirmed that he was put in a group of 10 that also included Bruce, Jackie, Rosa, Stefania and other names that I didn't recognize, who went to Cihuatlan together in several vehicles. Stefania, is this how your group was formed, presumably on the basis of postal code? Who did the organizing? An official in Cihuatlan or someone in La Manzanilla? It certainly makes a lot more sense to group people together, depending on where they live, than for hundreds of individuals to make their own appointments and then figure out how to get there. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I hope that someone can determine the current appointment system and let the rest of us know exactly what to do. | -----------------------Re: Anyone here have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?

Jeanne, would you mind elaborating on what you mean by "a friend arranged everything for us?" (Presumably the same 10 of you will go back together for the second shot.) Don Raul was in your group, but his wife is waiting for a call, expecting to be placed in another group of 10 from La Manzanilla. The rest of us don't know whether to wait for a call (per the mivacuna website instructions) or call ourselves to make an appointment after registering online. Based on your own experience, would you suggest that 5-10 seniors from La Manzanilla get together and call to make an appointment at the same time? I'm glad that you got your first vaccination, but everyone else appears to be as baffled about the process as I am. | -----------------------CURP number

If you don’t have a CURP number on your Permanente Card, you can get one by presenting your card to the Papelaria behind Lidia’s. It cost $20 for two photocopies, no charge for the original. | -----------------------Re: CURP number

Getting a copy of your CURP number... https://www.gob.mx/curp/ When you have the page that looks like a little certificate in red, save that to a file and copy to a memory stick.. it will be a PDF file... take the memory stick to a papaleria, or someone with a printer or if in Melaque just down from the delegado's office.. Cost is 10 pesos for 2 color copies. You should make a copy of your residente card too.. both sides. Leave nothing to chance. DNA sample not required..... yet. | -----------------------Re: Anyone here have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?

Lynne W. et al: I will be glad to carpool with others to transport to either Cihuatlan or to La Huerta to get vaccinations. I still don't know whether La Huerta even has the vaccine. I have registered at mivacuna but have no info yet. I requested a call or email in English. | -----------------------Making Vaccination Appointments for Seniors Who Live in La Huerta
Posted by Lynne W on February 19, 2021, 5:23 pm, in reply to "Re: Anyone here have experience with the Mexican vaccine process?"
Thanks for the offer, Dave, but there are still too many unanswered questions to plan a vaccination trip to either place. So I'm hoping that a fully bilingual senior will call one or all of the posted numbers and ask the following questions, then report the answers on the Message Board: Can coastal residents of La Huerta who have registered online make their vaccine appointments in Cihuatlan? Can one person call with multiple CURP and Folio numbers so that we can make adjacent appointments and come together at the same time? If we need to be vaccinated in La Huerta, what number do we call? (And then ask the same question about making simultaneous or adjacent appointments.) I also requested an email notification, but apparently appointments are handled solely by phone--although it's still not clear to me who calls whom. (BTW, if you ever receive an email message in Spanish, just copy and paste it into Google Translate.) Since a "friend" made the arrangements for the group of 10 that included Stephanie, Jeanne, and Don Raul, it appears that the rest of us are back at Square One...including Don Raul's wife, who is still waiting for a call and hoping to be included in the next group of 10 from La Manzanilla... | -----------------------Re: Making Vaccination Appointments for Seniors Who Live in La Huerta

To answer Lynne’s questions....I was in the car with Don Raul and I understood him to say that his wife was going the next day..or possibly today with the group from LM. I cannot honestly tell you how I was most fortunate to be invited on Tuesday! A great friend and advocate called me early Tuesday morning and before I knew it was on my way for the first vaccine! Today many more folks were lined up for hours in Chiat so I would strongly suggest that someone in your group with fluent Spanish go early Monday morning and try registering the group for the following day! That seems to be how it is done! Although I have no information on how long they will be dispensing! We were not aware of any problems that folks have posted about being out of area or having the option of going to La Huerta and have heard of no vaccines being given there! Hope this helps you...a bit! Just have your CURP card at the ready... | -----------------------Re: Making Vaccination Appointments for Seniors Who Live in La Huerta

Aha! Thanks for your input, Stefania. Perhaps Don Raul's wife is waiting for a call from the same person who called you and her husband. I read the entire (Spanish) instruction page on the mivacuna website a few days before I actually registered online. It said that someone would call me to set up an appointment, so I indicated the best times to call in the comments section. Then people from Melaque/Barra started posting that we now have to call one of three numbers ourselves to sign up for a date/time. Nowhere did it say that you have to go to the nearest vaccination site in person to sign up for another day. Perhaps because I'm an editor, I can read and write Spanish a whole lot better than I can communicate verbally. Also, I don't have a vehicle. If someone is willing to go to Cihuatlan to make appointments for a group, I would like to be in that group. You can reach me at lunalenamx@gmail.com or by calling/texting (315) 107 3037. I would gladly pay for gas. (I think the first group had a noon appointment; late morning or early afternoon would probably be best, to give us time to round everybody up.) Two more questions, Stephanie: Did you mean that we have to take the printout of our CURP in addition to our residence card on which it is printed? Also, do we have to take a printout of the PDF with our Folio Number that was generated when we registered online? Thanks again for your help. | -----------------------Re: Making Vaccination Appointments for Seniors Who Live in La Huerta

No appointments now. Just go there, early is better. Bring your Residente Permanente card, and the Folio Number from your online registration, either printed or a screen shot on your phone. A taxi can bring you there too, and there’s cabs to bring you back. It’s the new IMSS hospital in Cihuatlán (pronounced EEMS). I think it’s better to go without a group. Just get in line, it will all work out. | -----------------------Re: Making Vaccination Appointments for Seniors Who Live in La Huerta

Thanks for providing the easiest answer, David. I have now arranged to go to Cihuatlan with my Mexican landlords, with whom I communicate easily in Spanish. I figure that the folks at IMSS can handle a group of three. | -----------------------The process as I experienced it this morning. (Saturday)

Arrived a little bit after 7am There was a line of about 20 people. At 8am they set up tables to register. It didn't matter if you already registered online they were ignoring the registration folio. They needed to see your resident card and CURP and asked a few health questions and took down your address, phone number and email address. They put a sequence number on the back of the document they created and you proceeded to the next line to wait for the vaccinations to begin. Those started a bit after 9am. The vaccine jab process was fairly fast and then everyone went outside while they did more documentation and they made sure everyone was ok. They then called your name and gave you a document called a COVID-19 Vaccination card with the info on the vaccination and the appointment for the second shot.

Dave, if you read today's posts, you'll learn that we can just show up early at IMSS in Cihuatlan, without an appointment, if we have already registered online and take the proper paperwork. Thanks for offering to drive, but I have now arranged to go with my Mexican landlords. Maybe I'll see you and Laura there? | -----------------------
