Denise Brown Underground Railroad Zoom Art Show

Those who enjoyed Denise Brown playing drums at Palapa Joeʻs as well as her painting and poetry may be interested in seeing her Fabric of Freedom solo art show up here in Gibsons Canada. As part of Black History Month there will be a special Zoom celebration with a virtual tour of her paintings by Denise (as well as a quilt by her partner Cheryl Malmo) at 4pm PST on Sunday Feb. 21st, plus poetry by other local poets. I just went to see the show at the gallery and it is a fascinating chronicle of the quilt designs with their hidden symbols to guide the fleeing slaves to a safe route to the north. To attend the Zoom tour you have to register with the gallery at: info@gpag.ca | -----------------------Re: Denise Brown Underground Railroad Zoom Art Show

Congratulations and Best Wishes to Denise and Cheryl. Hope that we'll have a chance to see some of their paintings and quilt here in La Manz next season - and to again hear Denise on her drums. | -----------------------Re: Denise Brown Underground Railroad Zoom Art Show

What a fabulous zoom Art Show ... some excellent poetry and story-telling, but the STAR OF THE SHOW ... oh, Denise was so grounded, so rock solid, so intelligent and beautifully spoken ... and then there were the paintings! It was/she was breathtaking. | -----------------------Re: Denise Brown Underground Railroad Zoom Art Show

I know Jo Anna. I always admired her as an artist, musician and poet, but yesterday Denise totally enraptured me away with her presence, humour and depth. There was talk of posting something on Youtube about the exhibit. I hope this includes her speech. | -----------------------Re: Denise Brown Underground Railroad Zoom Art Show

Yes, was not able to see the Zoom presentation, so hope it goes to YouTube. Was not aware of the use of quilts as a part of the Underground Railroad. Would love to see the show. | -----------------------Re: Denise Brown Underground Railroad Zoom Art Show

Unexpected trip thanks to Dhyana Bartkow! What a nice surprise to find myself in La Manzanilla. Although appearing on the message board doesn't quite match a sunset on the beach, at this moment somehow it feels just as special. Seeing so many familiar faces on zoom last night was the best. Thank you all for your love and support. | -----------------------Re: Denise Brown Underground Railroad Zoom Art Show

Beautiful concept and artistic manifestation. This glimpse into the workings of the ‘Underground Railroad' of escaping slaves is eye-opening, awareness-expanding, but in a gentle non-didactic way. Bien hecho, felicidades! We miss both your presence and your presents in La Manzanilla. | -----------------------
