Turtle question

Some of you may remember that I had a turtle make a nest in front of gate to the beach around January 13. So far no hatching has occurred. The nest is still intact and I'm quite sure no one has disturbed the eggs. It's been over 60 days. Can it take longer ? Should I dig down in the nest to see what's going on? | -----------------------Re: Turtle question

Our experience has been 55 - 60+ days. Being it has been cooler this year, may take longer for hatching. | -----------------------Re: Turtle question

It depends on the species of turtle as to how long it will take. Olive Ridley: 43 - 46 days Black turtle: 50 - 60 days Leatherback: 60 - 70 days Of course these being reptiles the timings are affected by the temperature and this time of year nests always take longer than in August to hatch, plus it has been colder this year. What sized tracks led upto the nest? This will give you an ideas of the species. Olive Ridley: 40cm - 60cm wide Black turtle: 1m + Leatherback: 1.5m - 2m Prior to the hatching you will see the sand directly above the eggs depress a bit as the hatchlings leave their eggs to make their way out.
