consumer report.com Most Jeep products are at the bottom of the list, Wrangler being the worst. May be worth your time to red all the Jeep reviews Steph... | -----------------------or this one for reviews...

Stephanie, usually I start with looking at the Consumer Reports for the specific year and model that I am interested in to see what they say. Then, I look at what Consumer Reports says in what is usually a separate article, what are the most common repair problems with that vehicle, how much the cost of the repairs (generally). Also asking mechanics about the availability of common parts. Too many times I and others have had to go to Herculean measures to find parts for automobiles. Waiting, and waiting and waiting (good practice for living in Mexico). | -----------------------Re: Have any experience with jeeps?

A former co-worker bought one new in 05 or 06. Complained regularly about poor fuel mileage, and being under powered (75 & 80mph freeway limits now days). rojo | -----------------------Re: Have any experience with jeeps?

I had one for a very short time, the most dangerous and worst handling vehicle I've ever driven, no power and built like shit, to be honest with you I would stay away from that one, better off with a good old reliable Chevy pickup, especially in Mexico, parts are everywhere for Chevy's

Sorry I have never owned a jeep in mexico, but I can tell you when it comes to reliability of a 10+ yr old vehicle I would throw my hat in for a toyota or a honda before most any other brands. Good luck, it still is always a crap shoot buying an older vehicle no matter what you get. | -----------------------Re: Have any experience with jeeps?

Thanks everyone for the input! I just talked with my mechanic for many years and he too said stay away from this one! She was a beauty but my brain says there is something better out there! Again, gracias! | -----------------------Re: Have any experience with jeeps?

...this was a good read, as I too am in the market for a new vehicle once my residente permanente is finalized. My old VW with 350k on the ODO and built in Brazil doesn't qualify for personal importation...not a NAFTA car and is a bit long in the tooth, so it's gotta go. Looking hard at the Toyota Avanza, a Toyota badged but inexpensive utilitarian SUV/Van crossover with lots of room inside, especially if not needed, you take out the third row of seats. If you you have modest cargo needs even something like the simple Nissan March may work... very popular and again inexpensive. If buying any used car, make sure you get the ORIGINAL factura (bill of sale) which the owner will sign over to you and get it checked out by a reputable mechanic... I know of several. | -----------------------
