Yes, it is true! But the high side is that, allowing for sufficient cash in the machine, there appears to be no limit on the withdrawal amount. | -----------------------Re: ATM Fees #2

"allowing for sufficient cash in the machine, there appears to be no limit on the withdrawal amount." ... if true Valerie, morally it's a tough call to go to a small town ATM and pull say, $20,000 pesos or more out at a crack to pay for a pricy rental property and have plenty left over for the month to eat out and shop. Half a dozen folks do that and there wouldn't be much left for the rest of the community till the machine was restocked.. which could be a number of days down the road. Most Mexicans using 'national' cards likely pay a much smaller fee (although I could be wrong) and they often take out smaller sums of $1000 or $2000 pesos at a time. I can't see them paying $162 pesos for a $1000 pesos withdrawal. ... don't know what the answer is Valerie, but somehow I wouldn't clean out a small town machine to the detriment of the remainder of the community....but that's just me. | -----------------------Re: ATM Fees #2

Last week, the Tamarindo worker ahead of me at the ATM at the Delegación showed me this screen as he was attempting to withdraw money - he was as surprised as I was

I withdrew money from the AFIRME ATM with my Citibanamex card yesterday and the fee was still only $34.80 pesos, At Caja Solidaria, it's still $39.00. Only once in the past few years have I had to go to an ATM in Melaque because both local machines were either out of cash or out of order. BTW, the daily withdrawal limit imposed by most Mexican banks is either $5,000 or $6,000 pesos so, if your northern bank's limit is higher, please leave some cash in the machines for the people who actually live here. | -----------------------Re: ATM Fees #2

"but somehow I wouldn't clean out a small town machine to the detriment of the remainder of the community..." I'm interested in hearing from people regarding how frequently they've found the machine cleaned out. | -----------------------Where Does It Go?

The money I take from the ATM goes to pay my Mexican landlady, to buy my groceries from Mexican tiendas, to buy meat from the Mexican meat shop, to buy beer from the Mexican beer shop, to buy food at Mexican restaurants. Please, Folks, lay off the guilt tripping. | -----------------------Re: Where Does It Go?

Great video! Even if one did not speak Spanish they could get the gist and it shows a pretty good depiction os small-town economy except the last part where the guy gets a refund. | -----------------------Re: Where Does It Go?

Stating a fact is not guilt-tripping anyone. As Jeanne noted, the amount on the screen can be as high as $16,000 pesos, but Mexicans can withdraw, at most, only about a third of that amount. Now that there are fewer Tamarindos workers, the only time the AFIRME machine drops to $1,750 or empties altogether is during the high season, which is why I prefer to pay 20 centavos extra and withdraw cash from the Caja Solidaria ATM because it does not accept foreign bank cards. | -----------------------Re: ATM Fees #2

On the screen where you choose how much money to withdraw, there is always a maximum amount posted at the top of the screen. When the machine is full, the limit is $16,000 pesos. As the amount of money in the machine dwindles, the maximum amount is reduced. | -----------------------Re: ATM Fees #2
