tu dices adios yo digo hola

I love it when people walk by and instead of saying hello (ohla) they say goodbye (adios). Its contrary to the gringo world but it sure make sense as they are in the process of leaving. I say adios all the time now. I'm turnin Mexicano, I think I am turning Mexicano, I really think so.

Have you noticed that when someone is a stranger, he/she is likely to greet you with "Hola" or "Buen Dia," but a good friend or someone you know very well will say "Adios" which, like the French word "Adieu," means "to God." It doesn't really matter if that person is arriving or leaving or just passing by; it's the relationship between you that determines the greeting or parting words. At least that's what I learned in the Warren Hardy Spanish School years ago, and it seems to hold true all over Mexico. I love feeling worthy of an "A+dios."| | -----------------------Re: tu dices adios yo digo hola

When you are just passing by someone adios is kinda like saying I am here now but I will not be in just a moment. I coined a palabra that I use, it is HOLADIOS. My neighbors seem to like it or at least they laugh. | -----------------------
