Gaaaazzzz
Posted by RickF on April 24, 2021, 10:58 pm
.... daily there is a constant parade of horn honking jingle playing squawking trucks peddling $$ gas from at least 4 companies parading up and down the streets of Melaque... sometimes they come twice a day. Then there are the water trucks... a Tarzan yodel, more horn honking.... then it's the veggie guys... constant noise especially early in the morning. It is my understanding this practice has been banned in La Manzanillo. Is this true? How so?

Rick, It is the same here in La Manzanilla, so it can’t have been banned here. Or if it was, it is not enforced. Anneli | -----------------------Re: Gaaaazzzz

Why would you, want it banned, it is the sound and color of our pueblos, letting us know the water, gas, knife sharpener, ice cream and pan man are out on the streets! It is the flavor of Mexico, not sterilized or neutered or homogenized...... | -----------------------Re: Gaaaazzzz

I have to agree - there are a lot more gas trucks here in La Manzanilla these days. We counted five different companies within an hour or so one day. Used to be just Global Gas coming around our house, and most times we had to call them. Now they ring our bell, and it can be Zeta, or Vela, or Gas Oro or.... Along with the new Oxxo, does this mean we are entering civilization? | -----------------------Re: Gaaaazzzz

We chuckle to ourselves when we hear the gas truck pass by. What we hear is "Got Gas?" It's Mexico. . . probably? | -----------------------Re: Gaaaazzzz

"Why would you, want it banned" ... didn't say that, just wanted to know if it had been banned as had been suggested by another person? Now I know. Some may want it banned, others may love the sound of the jingles, yodels and honking horns of the 4 or 5 gas companies all driving around selling exactly the same thing for pretty much the same price. But that's the nature of free enterprise... Thanks for the 'heads up'... | -----------------------Re: Gaaaazzzz

Now that you mention it, it has been a while since I heard the y gas jingle. Not sure if they dropped out of the competition, changed their jingle due to legislation, haven't changed at all, or .....? Re David's "does this mean we are entering civilization" certainly the definition of the word civilization could be discussed. Only a couple of day's ago I was walking to restaurant Raul (next to the office) to order lunch, and every step I took, every moment of that short journey was appreciated in depth for its unique Mexico / La Manzanilla characteristics. I'm not sure why that little walk (which I have done a hundred times) stood out more than usual. It was so rich and full as compared to the life I knew before coming here, where the definition of town or neighbor was isolated and bereft of content in comparison. And to tie that into the topic of this post, it included all the noises that go with it. A bit of a bother at times, but part of the intricate fabric that gives it depth. Life is good. | -----------------------Re: Gaaaazzzz

The Global Gas truck that plays the tune I was thinking of just went by so all is well with the world eh? The most recent addition to the gas trucks is the one that whistles, can't name the tune but it is familiar. I searched famous songs with whistling went to videos and got this collection, after listening to a few or them I forget the whistle of the gas truck. Arghhh https://youtu.be/dORIi4I7FVc Perhaps its time we made a collection of public sounds. The various gas trucks, vegetable vendors etc. We could also add some of the more famous on foot vendors who don't use a microphone but a type of song. Like the person who sells cotton candy and the cookie / pan guy, characters they are, they give the place color. | -----------------------Re: Gaaaazzzz

The Shazam app on your phone will identify songs, even if you sing or whistle it | -----------------------Re: Gaaaazzzz

Great idea Daniel. Vendor street cries are a recognized audio art form. There are a number online from India. Maybe David could team up with an audio recorder or videographer. The increased number of gas vendors in LaManz. May be related to the removal of energy monopoly legislation passed during the last administration. | -----------------------Re: Gaaaazzzz

Hey there David, the Oxxo is not new. It has been there, what, 2 years now? Remember how shocked non Mexicans were that the atrocity was being built? | -----------------------Gas truck collection

Here is the whistle I don't know. It comes from the Vella gas truck
The Vella canister truck has a different sound
Here is the Global Gas canister truck
Not sure if the Global Gas tank truck has a sound or just by appointment, will update when someone knows. Here is a bad clip of Eco Gas canister truck
Here is a Duck Duck go video search search using the query - mexico propane truck songs - https://duckduckgo.com/?q=mexico+propane+truck+songs&t=h_&iax=videos&ia=videos

Cool collection, I’ve never heard of Eco Gas- another to add to the herd. You’d think gas would be cheaper with all this competition, but it seems more expensive these days. | -----------------------Re: Gas truck collection

I don't even use gas, no hot water, no kitchen. But I got looped into the unknown song thing and the idea of a data base and found myself chasing gas trucks today trying to record their song. One time I got ahead of the truck and positioned my car so I could record it going by. As he passed he stopped the music and stopped the truck to see why I was recording him. I had to explain that I wanted to record the song he was playing. I think I am done with this little diversion, but do hope someone identifies the whistle tune. | -----------------------Another one - Gaso Oro

Another canister truck just went by with a distinctive tune, Gas Oro, that makes 4 companies selling gas. I didn't get a vid as my cell phone has a ####ed up battery | -----------------------
