mexican cell phone use in the states

I was wondering if my Mexican cell phone will work in the USA for domestic calls within the states. I usually switch out the Mexican chip for a US chip and buy a 6 month card for minutes. I would like to replenish my Mexican chip before leaving if it works in the states. Tks | -----------------------Re: mexican cell phone use in the states

The short answer is no. If someone calls with a 1 then the Mexican country code 52... long distance charges will probably apply. The longer answer is many plans offer inexpensive calls to Mexican landline phones, as low as 2 cents or 5 cents a minute, others offer plans that include Mexico, usually companies like Vonage offer these. But more often than not calls to cellphones will incur significant long distance charges up to 28 cents a minute. The last option is for you or the party you are calling to bring down a VOiP phone (Vonage) and hook it to their internet.. essentially porting their NOB phone number from Canada or the USA down to Mexico. I have been doing this for years...anyone in Canada or the USA who wants to talk to me calls my Nanaimo BC phone number, a local call for friends and family.. the phone rings here in Mexico... talk all you want for free. | -----------------------
