Resident card

Lost my resident card in the U.S.. I had to re-enter as a tourist. I was told by INM Melaque that I would need to go outside Mexico to re apply. I read that I could get a replacement card but I guess my current status of tourist might make that impossible. Anyone with any ideas? Would a lawyer help me avoid a trip and a whole new application? | -----------------------Re: Resident card

I had lost my temporary when waiting to apply for permanente residente. The Consulate in Sacramento told me I needed to report it to the police and bring them the paperwork, case solved. And yes, out of Mexico it was for me. Went smoothly... | -----------------------Re: Resident card

If I have to go outside Mexico, I may go to the consulate east of San Diego. Pretty stiff consequences. Glad yours went smoothly. | -----------------------Re: Resident card

Phoenix was actually a breeze. Make sure wherever you go take all the required paperwork. Duplicate copies of bank records, one year. Three color copies of passport, three headshot photos. Put on your best friendly smiley face, it will be easier than you think. I dont think I missed anything. Also remember to report LOST or stolen police report of your card. Good luck... | -----------------------Re: Resident card

I lost my residente temporal card in Mexico, I simply went in and applied for a replacement at the INM office here in Melaque. Citlalli, the agent here in Melaque was very helpful and she assisted me in obtaining a replacement... there is a process. The fees were about 1500 pesos and the process was fairly simple. No police report was required although a short letter explaining how you think it was lost was required. I didn't know for sure..it may have fallen out of my wallet. Because you entered Mexico by air and filled out a tourist visa associated with your passport you instantly lost your residente status... you cannot hold both by law. Yes you must start all over again. You would have been wiser to enter Mexico by land and then go into the local INM office here and report it lost (or stolen if applicable) to Citlalli and you don't know where... that way you wouldn't have had to go through the out of country consulate hassle. Never, never fill out a tourist visa when you have residente status.. either temporal or permanente. You will become an instant tourist again... I just picked up my new residente permanente card this morning from Citlalli.... been a long 4 years waiting... yes, she had a big smile. | ----------------------- Edit Residente Card

...another thing I should mention, the airlines submit the tourist visa fee to the Mexican government on your behalf when you book then fly to Mexico commercially. Be sure to let the booking agent know, you will probably have to phone them, but let them know you are flying as a resident of Mexico and have a residente card.. dont fly as a tourist. You should NOT have to pay the tourist fee and you sure as hell don't want to be logged in as one. Be really insistent because a lot is at stake.. get those ducks in a row...Canada's WestJet (if and when they fly again) were pretty good about this and accepted my verbal declaration.. don't know about other airlines though. | -----------------------Re: Edit Residente Card

Thanks! Your explanation made it clear. I think I will apply for a permanente while I’m at it. (I had a temporal before.) Looks like I’ll be headed for Calexico above Mexicali because of their good reputation. | ----------------------- Thats what I did, applied for Permanente
