IMPORTANT IMMIGRATION UPDATE!

Melaque immigration office now accepts applications for temporary residency for people that have visas that expired in 2020 and 2021. Financials are not required at this time. You have to show proof of multiple entries to Mexico according to Paco Barriente. I did question Paco about providing proof of multiple entries, as most people arrive, stay a few weeks or months and leave. He agreed that it was strange. Several friends are in the process of getting their visas processed. For additional questions contact the Melaque immigration office directly. They will NOT process walk ins, you have to make an appointment. CALL 315-355-6013 for an appointment or walk in to request an appointment. Paco will call the immigration office again Monday to get a bit more details...and I will update this post as needed... | -----------------------Temp first? IMPORTANT IMMIGRATION UPDATE!

In the past We’ve heard from a few town mothers that it’s much better to go for permanent residency straight away rather than temporary first. They said if you get a temporary first it’s harder to get permanent. Any thoughts anyone? | -----------------------Re: Temp first? IMPORTANT IMMIGRATION UPDATE!

Permanent residency is best, but temporary ok. The only downside to temporary is you can't be out of Mexico for more than 180 days without the chance of losing it. The temp process is pretty automatic. Just completing time requirements then permanent is automatic. | -----------------------Permanente vs. Temporal

I agree, going Permanente is better, but is not an option, the only choices offered here at this time are 1,2,3 or 4 year Temporary Residency. For Permanente you have to apply at a Mexican Consulate in your home country. The processing costs: $1,410 pesos processing fee to the INM $51 p per each day over visa expiration date FINE And the cost of how many years would you like to apply for temporary residency: $4,413 pesos 1 year $6,613 pesos 2 year's $8,376 pesos 3 year's $9,927 pesos 4 year's

In a consulate near you over the border, worked for me but that was three years ago, may have changed. At that time I only had temporal two years...worth a try I would think. Go prepeared! | -----------------------
