Is Anyone Missing a Beautiful, Large Turtle?
Posted by Lynne W on July 6, 2021, 8:49 pm
Diana Quadri, who doesn't use the internet, just called to ask me to post this message. A beautiful, large turtle (color unknown to me) has been wandering her property for several days and is now in her small pool. She says that it's tame and appears to belong to someone, and she doesn't know what to feed it. If it's yours, or you know its human parent, please call her at 315 351 5057. She lives at 247 Lazaro Cardenas--the road into/out of town--one lot past The Frozen Buddha. | -----------------------Re: Is Anyone Missing a Beautiful, Large Turtle?

Tell her to feed it lettuce, turtles ####ing love lettuce.
I had a turtle when I was a kid, it had samall hole drilled in the skirt of his shell by his back leg so we could tie him up. His name was Turde. I miss Turde (big cry) | -----------------------Re: Is Anyone Missing a Beautiful, Large Turtle?

Thanksm D. I'll call Diana immediately and tell her about the lettuce...although I'll skip the part about the hole in Turde. I still miss my first pet, a white rabbit named BunBun. My mother said they took him to a farm, where he would be happier. Yeah, right. | -----------------------Re: Is Anyone Missing a Beautiful, Large Turtle?

You say "yeah right" now but back then you were like Dell and Mr. Jangles in The Green mile. "He's gonna be a circus Mouse, goin to mouseville"
How do we ever forgive our parents for being the liars that they were?

I know this is a tangent, but here goes. I had forgiven my parents for lying to me about BunBun's fate, until I read an article called "Skinning the Rabbit" yesterday afternoon in one of the many back issues of The Sun magazine that I buy at Helping Hands. (I want to be an essayist myself, so reading them sparks my imagination.) The author describes her horrific childhood on a farm that raised animals for food; she was forced to slaughter the creatures that she considered pets to get over being "squeamish," including a beloved bunny. As a child, my favorite meal was hamburger stew, but I haven't eaten meat since reading "Animal Liberation" in 1975. Neither did my second husband, after his truck broke down outside a slaughterhouse in northern California--a major reason that I agreed to marry him. He also helped me save birds and mice from the jaws of our five well-fed cats. There are two points to my digression: 1) I need to forgive my parents again. 2) If I ever find that beautiful wandering turtle, it will NOT become somebody's soup! | -----------------------Re: Is Anyone Missing a Beautiful, Large Turtle?

Is the turtle still there? Thanks! | -----------------------Re: Is Anyone Missing a Beautiful, Large Turtle?

Lisa, I'll know in about an hour when I go to Diana's to swim, or you could call her at 315 351 5057. I tried to call her last night but her buzon is kaput, and now I'm cleaning up for my housekeeper's imminent arrival. Thanks for your interest. | -----------------------Re: Is Anyone Missing a Beautiful, Large Turtle?

I had a turtle pet years ago. We fed him lettuce and tiny bits of raw hamburger. | -----------------------Re: Is Anyone Missing a Beautiful, Large Turtle?

The turtle has since wandered into the banana trees so I still haven't seen it, but Diana knows now to feed it lettuce, thanks to Daniel and Lisa. I'll also tell her about the raw hamburger option if it shows its head (or shell) again. Thanks, Jeanne. | -----------------------
