I was in search of pesos about half an hour ago. Neither the ATM at the delegacion nor the one at the Caja Popular was working. | -----------------------Re: ATM in La Manzanilla or Melaque

The one at the delegación was definitely working yesterday at about 6:00. So was it just drained of money today, Jane? Or not functioning at all? | -----------------------Re: ATM in La Manzanilla or Melaque

The screen said it wasn't working. That's all I know. The office door was closed, so I couldn't inquire within. | -----------------------Re: ATM in La Manzanilla or Melaque

...one thing I learned here in Mexico, is get pesos... LOTS of them during the week because on busy weekends the ATM's are almost always cleaned out; often long before Saturday is over. This is a big detriment to the local economy because if tourists and locals alike can't get cash, and yes, Cash is still King in Mexico... they don't spend money they can't get. Why are bank cards and credit cards not used more? I recently asked a 'well known and very busy restaurant' why they don't accept bank or credit cards? Why Cash only? The answer was simple.. 2 words: "The government"... you can guess the rest. | -----------------------Re: ATM in La Manzanilla or Melaque

Rick, the answer is partly the government and partly that the banks or card reader providers charge the business 3% to 6% per transaction and a lot don't want to up prices or have to pass that to the client. | -----------------------Check your bank statements... at delagado

Near 10 %, a very bad deal... | -----------------------Re: Check your bank statements... at delagado

...who charges 10% Deano? That's a very high fee for card usage. .. if that were the case, no I'd be asking cash only too. Dan seems to indicate here in Mexico a 3% to 6% transaction fee, which is really high. I would presume these are credit card fees. Such fees really hurt merchants.. no wonder they want cash only. NOB Bank or Credit Union debit card fees are .3% of the purchase. In Canada they are accepted and used everywhere and for everything. Credit card fees are 1.8% to 3.5%, depending on the dard used with American Express being the more expensive at 2.5% to 3.5%. | -----------------------Re: Check your bank statements... at delagado

Any news on the ATM at the delegación? Have they fixed it again? | -----------------------Re: Check your bank statements... at delagado

Yup, fixed. Day before yesterday could only get $3,500, all in hundred peso notes. Yesterday, usual limit and charge all in $500 peso notes. , | -----------------------Re: Check your bank statements... at delagado
