What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?
Posted by Stephanie on August 5, 2021, 5:01 pm
It surprises me that none of the info posted on LM live or the other MB is not making it to this board! I see posts coming out of both Manzanillo and news from a local tv station that the records are imploding in Cihuat and no,word of it here? Why? Several folks from here post covid updates elsewhere..could you add them here as well so others know more of what is going on locally? Please! And thank you! | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

Perhaps you can start a thread with the info. I’m sure extranjeros would be interested. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

Would gladly do that if I knew how and in just doing some backtracking right now, many do not show a share option! Rebecca, can you figure out how to transfer these messages from one board to another..or is that against board policy? | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

Or...perhaps we could have one safe place for nice thoughts, gratitude and being good to one another | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

.... over the hill, variant Delta has exploded like wildfire over the past month, much worse than the original first or second wave. It came fast and will probably go fast, but it's bad now... a lot of folks are sick. I posted (on here) the sad passing of 2 well known restaurateurs, oxygen is in short supply and is expensive. A fundraiser has been set up by Dr. Woo the local dentista ( I donated) to help people find and buy oxygen or oxygen concentrators. There is a bit more on the Tom Zap forum with additional and reasonably accurate details on what's happening if you care to look over there... no doubt Facebook has information too... although be careful there as sometimes stuff on Facebook that is to be taken with a grain of salt, unless you personally know the author or situation. If you directly quote from someone's post on another forum, generally that's OK but be sure to use quotation marks to indicate you are quoting someone else and their comment. If significant information or a large passage is quoted, give credit to the original author.. that way no one can cry plagiarism...not a big deal but just courtesy. If you quote from a news story, post the original source. I often use cut n paste.. The latest clinic in Cihuatlan, at the hospital has closed, even after an extension of 2 or 3 days past the weekend.. they were using SinoVac. It was busy. The jardine in Melaque is taped off and enforced/patrolled by the police. The majority of folks outside now wear masks. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

Or if the topic interests you, why not check the other boards? It only takes a few minutes. Personally, it's enough to know that the pandemic is racing up the coast and that people and the government are finally taking it seriously. (Better late than never!) What other information do we actually require? | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

"LIKE" Everyone is aware. Do your part and be safe. Let's not import the "fear" from up north. Above all, be kind. | -----------------------Re: Lynne

Francisco…I am here, and not importing fear from the North as you suggest, but sharing info that might help others in understanding how serious the situation is here on the coast! Being informed may make a difference to those who are not aware, and that in my mind is being kind! | -----------------------Re: Lynne

I was detecting a note of hysteria, which I find counterproductive. As a full.timer in La Manz and a resident of Mexico for nearly 20 years, I no longer follow US news. Why? I do not live there. I also do not live in Cihuatlan. Those of us who instinctively knew that Covid-19 would eventually hit the coast have been practicing the drill since March of last year. Wear a mask in public, wash hands frequently, maintain social distancing...and now, get vaccinated. I practice these behaviors automatically, but I do not actively think about the pandemic. Where attention goes, energy flows. I'm pretty sure that it will leave me alone. | -----------------------Re: Lynne

I want to apologize for appearing to be dismissive of others´ concerns, but the Message Board is not a regional newspaper. If you want valid updates about the Covid situation in the neighboring MPIO of Cihuatlan, in English, check Tomzap every few days for posts by Elke and/or Dan Patman. And, of course, I am not living in a cave. I read the NY Times daily headlines, watch PBS Newshour on YouTube a few times a week, and have a free lifetime subscription to Reuters because I was once employed by this respected news agency as a reporter and editor at its Caribbean affiliate. Back to my original points: There is no need to panic, and people should not expect to rely on others to summarize the local news for them. It is only a few clicks away. | -----------------------Re: Lynne

Again...a great big "like" One thing I find totally disrespectful is the announcement of a passing by a non family member. Especially within a very short time. Let the family come to terms and mourn on their own terms. Dios Mio!!!!! | -----------------------Re: Lynne

Many “there” are quite concerned about what is going on “here”…especially someone as special as Marta….which by the way is off topic here…. Are you “here” or “there”….sounds like there! | -----------------------Re: Lynne

The only info that’s relevant…wear a mask..maintain social distance and wash your hands often. It’s a shame people in la manzanilla were not prepared because who beside nobody thought is wasn’t going to happen here. I also recommend you go to other boards if this board isn’t giving you enough information to satisfy your curiosity. I, for one, have only to see the reports on the Jalisco app to know it’s dire. Be safe | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

If anyone wants to be kept updated on the COVID situation in our surrounding area, I would suggest going to the Facebook page, Costalegre/Covid-19 . I don’t see the need for that information to be replicated on this message board. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

Problem with that is, not everyone uses Facebook. I believe the more avenues used to get the word out the better. And, this certainly is one. Don’t keep info under the rug. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

Thanks Susanna for your response…I get calls and emails every day from folks all over wanting to know what is going on here…now! To not share info..whether on this board or others is just ignorant! Plain and simple! And while writing this I should mention info shared should be true and well founded…not always so easy to do here..or anywhere these days! | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

I heartily agree, Mazinka. You can join a particular Facebook group and ignore everything else. I also check posts by Elke (N2Futur) on Tomzap because she is in contact with health authorities in Cihuatlan and actually DOES something in a crisis. For example, she and Dr. Woo established a food bank the first time around; now they are trying to provide oxygen tanks to Covid patients who cannot afford them. On the other hand, I see no point in asking open-ended questions such as "What do you make of...?" They invite arguments and serve no real purpose. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

Stephanie, I deeply appreciate your keeping me (and others, of course) in the loop. I am sure there are many folks, similarly wanting to return to our winter homes. Your information is important to that decision-making process, and your informing us of those souls who have moved on is important in maintaining our deep and abiding connections. Thank you. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

The original question was what do we make of all the COVID going on in Cihuatlan - I think most of us, especially those who live here full time and those that read the message board whether here or there , would be more concerned and interested to know what’s happening in La Manzanilla than trying to absorb what’s going on in other municipalities. In my opinion doing this would just exacerbate the stress, fear and panic levels already experienced by some - factors that are all detrimental to the immune system. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

For me, Mazinka, fear comes from not knowing or from hearing mixed messages about what’s going on. Like you, I’m mainly concerned with La Manz, but Cihuatlan has been the center for vaccinations. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

I appreciate any information I can get on the COVID situation on the coast. I consult the Costalegra/COVID page on FB, but I'd like to know more. Why? Because I make La Manz my home for about 7 months a year, but more because I love the community and the people. Maybe if we had talked about this situation more from the very beginning, in every source possible, people would have taken the pandemic more seriously, and perhaps we would still have with us those who have died from this disease. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

Just for the record, the community hospital staff in Cihuatlan herds people toward their one-room Vaccination Station in a tight line, then ushers everyone into seats that are arranged with no attention to proper spacing between individuals. I couldn't believe everyone was so close together indoors for a sustained amount of time IN A HOSPITAL. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

Sad to see this thread revived but good post. It reminds me of a post I saw recently with two pictures (sorry to lazy to link). The first showed people checking in for a flight standing 6 feet apart. The second showed them seated on the plane right next to each other. The only way I can think of making that series of photos better would be to have all the passengers on the plane be sheep with mask on. Strict protocols will be enforced, unless it interferes with "essential" economics. OMG, the stupid, it hurts. | -----------------------Re: What do you make of all the covid going on in Cihuatlan?

In an attempt to not contribute to clogging up the message board and also not to become a target for those that like to take potshots and shoot from the hip, I attempted to email the following to you via email only to have returned as an incorrect address. Thus........ this was posted on tomzap today ( Aug. 9) "N2Futur [ PM ] [hide msgs from this user] A plea for help by Dr. Roberto Pimienta Woo new August 09, 2021 10:37AM IP/Host: 200.68.166.--- Registered: 14 years ago Posts: 5,560 Phone Interview this morning with Dr. Roberto Pimienta Woo... " The situation is totally out of control. The municipal authorities are doing close to nothing to help with the situation. The municipal government closed the old hospital and opened the new one, causing to make the situation worse. The sick people with Covid19 are only being helped by group of citizens. There is an average of 5 to 6 dead people every day, the deceased are all ages, young and old. In my 50 years as a doctor, I have never experienced a situation as horrible as this". Some people like to think La Manz is in a bubble however I see a lot of Manzites at the bank and Super Hawaii in Melaque and read on the message board about peeps wanting rides to Manzanillo to Comer, Home Despot, etc. It is the butterfly effect and no village is an Island. Watch out, I warned about this over a month ago, but Lamda, already in Mexico will barreling through before long, just as I warned about Delta over three months ago. So much of this was so preventable. https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/question-and-answers-hub/q-a-detail/coronavirus-disease-covid-19-how-is-it-transmitted Salud. | -----------------------
