We never leave our feet uncovered by shoes or flip flops, unless we're in bed. Shoes are always on! Also, never leave clothes or things of cloth, like towels, lying on the floor. The critters like to hide in them.
We use the flashlights on our phones to see our way to the toilet at night, so we don't stumble on a scorpion but we have our shoes on, so it should be alright.
Check the inside of shoes before putting them on.
If you don't have an Epipen, you might get someone from the US or Canada to see if they can get you one. (Prescription required though.) The local ambulance has several pens we've left them over the years, in the event of a sting that you're really reacting to. (The pens were expired but a quick search on the internet of several reliable sites indicated that they far outlast their expiry dates.)
Dra. Marta at La Farmacia by the church has antivenom. She saved Jim's wife several years ago. (I'm sorry. I've forgotten her name.) No need to go out of town.
Again, if anything has changed since last year, please correct me. Or if you think I'm wrong also correct me. It's too important to get this wrong.
