In that instance, we began with erroneous attitudes and values that persist to this day. They have erupted and revived a South vs North mentality that, being unleashed by one miscreant, just won't die and have vividly divided, what could have been, a good nation.
The moral of this story is that you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Women and minorities are still valued as being less and it hasn't changed that much in 200 plus years. Should we go back and try a new?
I say this because local volunteerism, of one small resident LM group, has been destroyed by unmeaning actions that mirror not respecting the local and present culture, as in Monte's cartoon. We have not only invaded but are imposing our values and attitudes as we see fit or serve our misguided purposes.
The moral of this story is that you can take a silk purse and make a sow's ear. Is this creative or destructive? Can't and shouldn't we do better? That is the question. Just saying, Cruz
PS: I don't leave myself out of this equation. After all, I come from that.
Thanks, Monte, for the opportunity, lol.
