Several weeks ago we had deaths in town, eight to ten by my count, that finally convinced a lot of the town's residents that the bug is real and that it can be deadly. I lost a cherished, local resident friend that couldn't be bothered to do a vaccination.
So more people are wearing masks and businesses seem to be taking protective measures, a bit on the loose side, but something at least.
I don't know if the Delta Variant has appeared but because of so many deaths between vulnerable people in a short period of time, I'm suspicious. Delta is virulent and catchy. I should ask the Delegado or the local clinic for stats and if they know if Delta has hit here.
Myself and other expats, vaccinated and not, are going about our business with and without a lot of precaution. So I guess you'll have to evaluate what you are comfortable with. I myself, vaxed, feel pretty safe going about but wear a mask and visit, pretty much, only open, ventilated places. I keep reminding myself to be attentive and careful. So far, so good. With the variant about I think one should stay alert.
My two cents, Cruz
