Guess that alert sort of summed it all up! Batten down and see you on the other side of this! | -------------------Re: Is this Nora?

The alert from the loudspeaker in the Jardin! First time I have heard it. Do not know if it was installed before Patricia or not, do not remember any advanced notice other than weather reports! This was to advise us of the approaching tropical storm Nora, guess due to advance over us starting tomorrow morning unless it changes directions! I moved some porch furniture around…guess I am ready! | -------------------Re: Is this Nora?

I found it interesting that they announced a tropical storm, when NOAA shows it being a hurricane by 1 pm Saturday. Guessing that they can't issue a hurricane warning until it is actually a hurricane, not just predicted to be one, even though NOAA already has us on a hurricane watch.

Well, that is not true. At 1 am Nora is still a storm and they put us under Hurricane watch. So why did the announcement say Tropical storm?

Accuweather says TS as well or am going with TS instead of the big H…calms my nerves more!!! Also got a link from friends that we were going to have 120 mph hour winds…my source say 50-70 max! Guess it will be what it will be! | -------------------Re: Is this Nora? Now it is. (Hurricane Nora)

I was in hurricane repair for 5 weeks and a out quite a bit of money since Hurricane Enrique on June 28th, I vowed never again, take a look at the office now in prep for this storm. \ See the white panel on top left, I have always had that as a rain gard/shade.After last hurricane I came up withe the idea of lowering it down over the windows (since its already there( all the rest of that shit came from that little idea. I may be missing out on some good dopamine from doing the hurricane naked (so to speak) but I am now a prime candidate for the news to come along and interview me as one of those old geezers who get their dopamine from being prepared! One way or the other it will be overdone! | -------------------Re: Is this Nora?

lessons learned. It looks great Daniel. Only the nice view from your desk to the ocean will be missing. Anyhow. Good luck on this one | -------------------Re: Is this Nora?

Think back to Patricia, remember all the buildings fronting the beach? Your plywood is merely an exercise to ease your mind, never going to stop a real assault from the good Mother. But good luck D. | -------------------Re: Is this Nora?

Nora is starting the same way Patricia did, strong wind off shore. That is how I got trapped in my office on that one, I was waiting for the wind to come from the ocean side and couldn't get out the door! As Patricia went around the point we got a break, which is when I made a dash for cover. 10 minutes or so later it hit us from the beach side. | -------------------Re: Is this Nora?

They sounded the siren in the Jardin before Enrique. Good luck all of you. I am in Cali now till Dec and we are having our own various shit shows here. Steve | -------------------Re: Is this Nora?

I went next door to Gaviotas up stairs, I had a couple of nice offers from some friends but think I am addicted to danger or something. Anyway the big wind started around 12:30 or so and lasted a couple of hours, Power went out around 2? I was sitting on the beach side deck with the house protecting me, it was like being in the center of a storm but safe. I took a video of the wind tearing the hell out of my almond tree, perhaps I will post it later. Around 3 pm it was dying down, I figured the mountains were protecting us from the back side wind but they never really hit like the offshore did. I wanted to go back to the office but was seeing some strange big waves about a mile or so out and figured the big waves were coming. At 4 pm when nothing was happening but some gust of wind and rain I got bored and just moved back into the office and spent the night in my own bed without any worries at all. | -------------------Re: Is this Nora?

Took this pic at 2pm Saturday. The mountain is obscured by rainfall not clouds. The sign for Pisada Tonala is on street about 100 meters from hotel. Drove to Melaque about 11am--trees stradling power lines, several rockslides blocking a lane. Crews working, lanes mostly cleared on return 2 hrs later. Prob a couple weeks work clearing debris off power/telephone lines.
