7.0 Earthquake 8 miles off coast of Acapulco

From CNN - A powerful earthquake has struck the southwest of Mexico late Tuesday. The US Geological Survey said the 7.0 magnitude quake struck 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) east-north-east of Los Órganos de San Agustín, about eight miles from the Pacific Coast beach resort city of Acapulco. It was measured at an initial depth of 7.8 miles (12.6 kilometers). The US tsunami warning system reports there is a threat of a tsunami following the quake, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. So as you can all breathe again. Tsunamis travel at speeds of about 500mph in deep water. Slowing to about 20-30mph in shallow water or when they strike land. So if that happened several days ago do not expect the tsunami. If you have a seaquake close to where you live you may not be able to escape the ensuing tsunami. It also depends on the depth and a few other basic things if you will get a tsunami at all. So if the seaquake happens 10 miles offshore remember the tsunami will travel to you at just over 8 miles in a minute, so you will have no time at all to evacuate. If you up the hill you can watch it happening. Also being in a bay may help because it also depends in your case the direction the tsunami is coming from to how it will react in the bay. | -------------------
